BJ FLORES JOINING TONEY AND MAYORGA IN MOVE TO MMA?By Ben Thompson | March 09, 2010
 |
| It appears undefeated NABO cruiserweight champion BJ Flores is thinking about following in the footsteps of James Toney. According to MMAMania.com, Flores has agreed to a multi-fight contract with Shine Fights, the same promotion that recently added Ricardo Mayorga to their ranks. The deal has yet to be finalized, but all indications are that Flores will soon be making his mixed martial arts debut, perhaps as early as June or July.
Flores was originally in training camp with former heavyweight champion John Ruiz, helping him prepare for his upcoming clash with current WBA champion David Haye. After about a week, however, Flores quickly switched sides and began helping Haye instead when the current champion extended the offer.
Although Flores has been boxing for the majority of his life, he does have more than just stand-up skills, having done some wrestling back in high school. He is currently trained by Jacob Chavez, who does have his own experience in MMA and has worked with a number of amateur martial artists in the Las Vegas area.
