thehype: FightHype would like to welcome Jens Pulver to tonight's chat session.
JENS PULVER: What's up FightHype
vegnugun: Jens, most people think that you shouldve retired a long time ago. I still think you have a lot more time left considering that you are only 34. Do you think that you can still kickass like you used to and come back if you made some adjustments?
JENS PULVER: Yeah, I think I can. Physically, I feel great. In that last fight, I did some good things. I'm in the right direction. Tony Fryland is a great coach and I feel great so we will see what happens.
mntackle: thats great news Jens. I've watched you a long time. if you could pick your next fight who would it be?
JENS PULVER: To be quite honest, I don't care. My biggest fight is against me. It's always been me, to get back to that level playing field and doing the drills and everything. But I gotta beat me first. I haven't been able to beat that guy yet.
Vega: Hi Jens. It's truly an honor to speak with you. I know that was a tough loss for you, but shit happens bro. Hopefully you haven't totally made up your mind about retiring yet. Even though you lost, I still feel like you can compete with anyone. Do you feel the same or do you feel like your abilities have diminised in time?
JENS PULVER: Time has kept me from improving my skills, having children and bills to pay. It became a job. I have been trying to figure out how or what I can do to make it. I'm a pioneer. I'm not rich and when I leave, it's not about getting better or improving; I'm just thinking that's half of a paycheck I left behind and that's what kills me.
JENS PULVER: I gotta learn how to be able to compete and pay bills and get better and figure out how to beat me.
Joel: Jens, i train mma and bjj in colorado, any advice on fights and/or grapping tournaments to prepare mentally for them? also side note, thanks for kicking bj's ass back in the day at light weight
JENS PULVER: LOL. You have to enjoy it and thats the truth. To get ready for a fight or a match, it's all about learning it. Learn your gameplan and learn how to employ it. Don't be scared to try things, especially in grappling matches. Early, you shouldn't worry about wins and losses, but just experiencing it and getting bigger and better.
ShawnKc: Jens, what do you think about the way all of your fans reacted at the weigh ins and after your fight? I mean, it was obviouse that win or lose, most of the fans were there to see one guy...you !! And the Fighting Sports guy too I think.
JENS PULVER: I love the fans and that's one of the reasons why I don't want to retire, but at the same token, I think that's why I should because I can't keep breaking their hearts. Fighting Sport is incredible. I love that gear. It's the greatest gear on the planet.
JENS PULVER: The people in the sport keep me alive in the sport and that place went nuts when I was done.
JENS PULVER: To be remembered is one thing, but to be appreciated is another thing and that's incredible to me. That's Martin Luther King and I go into that a little in my new documentary.
Pactard: Hey Jens, do you follow boxing at all? If so, who do you think is the best pound-for-pound fighter? Pacquiao or Mayweather?
JENS PULVER: It's gotta be...Pacquiao has done a lot of great stuff, but it's gotta be Mayweather. That guy can beat you with his defense. I have never seen anybody with 2 feet that can do the things that guy can. Mayweather is sickening.
JENS PULVER: I rememeber watching Gatti (RIP) and when he would swing, you would see Mayweather was 8 times faster.
JENS PULVER: Just sickening.
50calReaper: First off I want to say I've been a fan of yours since you won the Batamweight title in the UFC.
50calReaper: Now here's my question, you've suffered a few losses in your career, as anybody else has. How do these losses effect you Jens? Do you become discouraged or do you take something from your loss to help you become a better competitor? Or is it something else I missed, haha.
JENS PULVER: That's a good question.
JENS PULVER: You get very discouraged by them, but what do you do with that discouragement? Do you pack up and quit or do you learn from them?
JENS PULVER: All of these losses beat me mentally, but I look back and see the appreication from the fans and I take a lot from that and that pushes me and the discouragement goes away quick.
JENS PULVER: I just gotta solve the mental riddle. I'm passing my physicals with flying colors. Turn that discouragement into work and hard work, that's what lets you know if you are a true athlete or just someone that enjoys the sport and watching it.
JENS PULVER: It did turn out the way I wanted to. Listening to that crowd scream was my reality. I needed that.
JENS PULVER: I'm not just a good fighter in the cage or a guy trying to make money. I'm in there because this is my home. I gained a lot by hearing that.
whitemagic: has the wec officially ended the contract
whitemagic: or is there a chance u will fight in that org?
JENS PULVER: I don't know yet.
JENS PULVER: I think the fans spoke way too loud to say no one wants to see me anymore.
JENS PULVER: It's me to figure out my life and see what's going on. Everything is still on pause right now. I'm just hanging out, taking some time off and we will see from there.
HaydelHam: Do you think it's more difficult to get up for fights now that you're older, or is it easier due to you having more experiencee?
JENS PULVER: It's different getting geared up for fights because I'm older. When I was young I was living in an apartment and I only needed $200 to pay my bills. Now I gotta support my family.
JENS PULVER: I always said, if it ever becomes a job, I will quit, but that was a 25-year-old speaking for a 34-year-old.
JENS PULVER: This is my job and I betta get damn good at it.
JENS PULVER: It's just different because it's mouths to take care of.
jb0156803: No question, just found out about this chat a few minutes ago. Just want to say that im a big fan, keep your head up, and look forword to seeing u in action again. Also I cant wait to get my Jens Pulver Tapout T shirt in the mail.
JENS PULVER: Thanks man. I had to do the Mike Tyson Punchout shirt and I appreciate it.
JENS PULVER: I hope you enjoy it. And I hope everyone is not stuck on the skulls and all of that and can enjoy it. I come from the old school and I'm a huge gamer. I take a lot of pride in that shirt and I can't wait until you get it in the mail too, man, it's cool.
Mullet: What would you say is your fondest memory and worst memory about your career?
JENS PULVER: Fondest would have to be my fight with Steven Pauly and the way we got after each other because you can't go fake in Hawaii.
JENS PULVER: I made a brother in that area. We got to sit down and talk. I have never been hit so hard.
JENS PULVER: My worst, I have to go back to that Joe Lauzon. He closed his eyes and swung and it eats me up. If I can go back to one spot, it would be that day.
JENS PULVER: Thank you guys for the support and asking me these questions because that is a gift. For people to want to come and say what's up is specal and I want you all to know, thank you very much.
JENS PULVER: I will be back at a later date. Go to Youtube and check out the new Jens Pulver clip "Driven."
thehype: FightHype would like to thank Jens Pulver for taking time out to chat with us tonight.

mntackle: very cool guy. we actually talked fishing most of the time.
mntackle: He loves to fly fish in Idaho.
mntackle: He is also looking into maybe doing some announcing which would be cool.
mntackle: Jens is a class act. I am pretty sure what you see on TV is what you get in real life.
