FightHype.com recently caught up with the official voice of the Octagon, world-renowned announcer Bruce Buffer, to get his thoughts on all of the big fights this weekend at UFC 74. Check out his opinion as he breaks down the matchups and you don't want to miss what he had to say about the return of Wanderlei Silva and Brandon Vera to the Octagon. Check it out!

PC: How is everything going Bruce?

BB: Everything is going great! I'm just getting ready for the fights this weekend. One fighter that I always get very emotional about is Randy Couture. I always look forward to his fights.

PC: How close to fight night do you start getting that antsy feeling?

BB: To be honest with you, it's just starting with me tonight (Wednesday). It's not really an antsy feeling as much as it's anxiousness and anticipation.

PC: Once again it seems like some people are counting Randy out in this fight. How do you see that fight playing out?

BB: I can only answer that with one answer and that's to never, ever count Randy Couture out. Randy Couture is a thinking man's fighter and if anybody can overcome physical disadvantages or an age difference, it's Randy Couture.

PC: Georges St-Pierre has his back to the wall Saturday and needs a win. Do you think he can pull out a win against Josh Koscheck?

BB: Josh keeps getting better and better and in his last fight, he showed it how he totally neutralized Diego Sanchez. The thing about Josh is that he is a warrior with an extensive wrestling background, but Georges St-Pierre is one of the most well-rounded mixed martial artists, even though he lost to Matt Serra. He got caught by a striker that did what any great striker would do and that's stay on top of you. That's what Serra did. I feel sorry for any man who has to stand on the other side of that cage against GSP Saturday night, but I will give Josh Koscheck a chance.

PC: We will also get to see two TUF winners. Do you think both Joe Stevenson and Kendall Grove have earned the right to remove that reality fighter title?

BB: You look at Kendall Grove and he's a freak of nature. The fact that he's walking around the weight that he walks around at and has the reach of a heavyweight. Kendall Grove has not even reached the level of potential that he is capable of with full martial arts training. Every time you see Kendall Grove, when the quality of his opponent is right, he looks better and better. I can see him being a champion one day. I really can. Joe Stevenson is as tough as they come. Height is his only disadvantage, but he has the same thing on his side that Matt Serra has and that's relentlessness. He just keeps coming. He is a very high quality of fighter. I really like Joe. Joe is the kind of guy if I was fighting Joe, like when I was a kid, he would be the bowling ball kind of guy. I would rather face the behemoth that could just clobber me than a guy like Joe.

PC: Speaking of lightweights, the last major lightweight fight was tainted with both Franca and Sherk testing positive for steroids. What is your take on steroids and what are your thoughts on how Dana handled the problem?

BB: I think Dana handled it very well. The best way you can handle it. If they tested every day in the NFL and MLB and some other sports that I can name, they would have guys testing positive for steroids all of the time. The difference between the UFC and MMA is that our commissions test our champions all of the time. As far as my view on steroids, I hate it. First off, I don't think steroids give you an advantage beyond that initial rush of energy whenever you walk in. When you're going five, 5-minute rounds, I don't think it helps. I am not for steroids. I've never used steroids and honestly I think as a fight goes on, it makes fighters gas quicker. I think Dana is going to crack down on it because he's disgusted by it.

PC: Do you think Dana White takes too much heat for things like this?

BB: Whenever you're the leader of the pack, a couple of wolves are going to go in the yard where they're not supposed to be and go after the leader. Dana is in the best position as leader. He's the boss, my boss, and that's why I call him chief because he is.

PC: With all of the cards coming up, 74 this weekend and 2 next month, are you afraid that the UFC will wear out it's welcome soon?

BB: That is a question that will remain to be seen, but as of right now, I do not think so because there is such a huge talent pool. Forgetting the fact that I'm in my office inside the Octagon doing my job, I am a fan and as a fan I wouldn't miss any one of those three shows. All of those cards are high in drama, from Liddell coming back to fight Jardine to Rampage/ Henderson and Shogun's debut against Forrest, and then of course you have the grandaddy of the sport. Who doesn't love Randy Couture, Captain America?

PC: You always hear a fighter saying it was tough to get up for this fight or that fight. Is it tough for you to come off of a huge PPV and get up for an Ultimate Fight Night card?

BB: It's not tough, it's just different. I don't go into an Ultimate Fight Night show in front of 3,000, or at the most 5,000, from where we do those shows and be emotionally charged like I do when I'm in front of 15,000 screaming fans. I look the fighters right in the eyes when I'm doing my thing and when I look to my left and see Randy Couture and then I look to my right and see Gonzaga, with that death fear stare that he has, and I realize what Randy has at stake, it's so much drama in that. I get up for that. I'm still up for the other shows, but it's tough to reach the level of a PPV card.

PC: This Ultimate Fight Night card on the 19th is a very good one. I hate to see Spencer not in it, but Kenny Florian is a damn good replacement.

BB: It's a great card. KenFlo is a buddy of mine and I've been out and had a good time with him before. This guy walks down the street and he looks about as much as a fighter as the mailman who delivers my mail. But when he gets in that cage, and I watched him swallowing buckets of blood against Sean Sherk, I realize that this man is that driven and that determined to do whatever it takes to win a fight. You can't teach that. Kenny is a born fighter. He loves to laugh and he has a great personality. He is one of my favorite fighters.

PC: With the UFC and Buffer Enterprises, do you have time for things like Fantasy Football?

BB: My equivalent to Fantasy Football is playing poker. I'm playing right now. In fact, I'll be on TV Tuesday night August 28th. They have me at the table with Chris Moneymaker so you have to check that out.

PC: I'm sure you're excited about the return of Brandon Vera and Wanderlei Silva?

BB: Brandon Vera against Tim Sylvia is a very dangerous fight. Brandon Vera is a very talented fighter that went through his moment, but now he has his head on straight and got some good advice and will now be back in the Octagon. They have all these other shows going on, and I'm speaking respecting them all, but if you want to get to the top and fight the best, you have to go through that Octagon. Brandon Vera is a very fun fighter to watch and him fighting the giant Tim Sylvia is going to be a great fight. Wanderlei Silva has the greatest staredown in MMA. I've had the pleasure of announcing him in Brazil and I look straight into his eyes and I can't wait to look at Wanderlei and see him with that little smirk as I call out his name. Everyone can't wait to see him. I don't care if he loses a couple of fights Wanderlei is an animal and a legend; thank you Dana White.

PC: Bruce it's always a pleasure. Enjoy the fights. Of course you have the best seat in the house. Let me know when you're ready to retire so I can put my application in for your job. Is there anything you want to say in closing?

BB: Oh, thanks Percy! I think I still have about 10-12 years (laughing).

PC: I'm still young. I could get in there at around 40!

BB: You got it brother; better late than never. I want everyone to watch the fight and have a great time. For those of you who like to play poker, join me over at rumblepoker.com online and other than that, just stay healthy.
