Thursday March 18 marked the date for the official announcement of the continuation of one of the most action-packed trilogies of all time.  Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez greeted the media in front of the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.  Golden Boy President Oscar de la Hoya and Gary Shaw Productions President Gary Shaw were in attendance, along with Vazquez's manager and co-promoter Frank Espinoza Sr. and Jr.  IBF bantamweight champion Yonnhy Perez and challenger Abner Mares were also in attendance to announce "Vazquez-Marquez IV: Once and Four All".

Oscar de la Hoya

"Vazquez and Marquez will definitely be a night to remember, once again, for the fourth time.  I have no doubt in my mind that this event will be a sell out."

"These are two fighters who understand what it is to put your life on the line and give the fans such a wonderful and beautiful performance."

"Abner Mares is a special talent.  He is the top-rated bantamweight contender at 118 pounds."

"He (Vazquez) knows that he doesn't have to put down, with words, his opponent, because he knows it's going to be one of those classic matchups that we all love watching."

"When he (Vazquez) steps inside that squared circle it's all business, it's all passion, it's all hard work and determination."

Gary Shaw

"They're talking about this fight, and what it is.  Frank, you said something about 'someday they will be legends'.  Let me correct you…humbly.  They are legends.  Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez are legends, they will forever be tied together in boxing and they will both be one day in the boxing hall of fame.  And I'm sure they'll be entering the boxing hall of fame together, attached by the hip."

"Jimmy Lennon, let me correct you.  You said something about scheduled for twelve rounds.  I agree.  It's only scheduled.  There's no way this fight will go for twelve rounds.  As a matter of fact, when this press conference is over I'm going to speak to Richard Schaefer about selling tickets by the round."

"Yonnhy Perez; for a lot of you that don't know him.  He is a fighting machine."

"We've been through 25 rounds all of us together.  We've been through three tremendous wars.  We've been through three of the greatest fights anybody has ever seen.  And if you were fortunate enough to be at any one of those in person, it was like having an out of body experience."

"This fight means a lot to Rafael Marquez.  I know Frank believes that they're the champion because they won two out of three.  I am telling you, I am guaranteeing you that there will be a knockout in this fight.  It will be an early knockout.  At the end of the day Rafael Marquez will win the fight by knockout.  There will be no decision in this fight."

"Every single one of these fights was a 50-50 deal on a handshake between Frank Espinoza and myself.  We never tried to get one up when either one of us won the fight.  And that's a credit to Frank, it's a credit to Israel who agreed, it's a credit to Rafael Marquez who agreed each time, and on this fight it's a credit to Richard Schaefer who agreed and shook the hand.

Israel Vazquez

"As the name says; 'Once and Four All' - We've done this three times before and we want to finalize it now."

"This fourth fight will not be the exception.  The three fights were wars.  I know he'll be prepared very well and he's coming hard, but so am I.  I love LA and we're coming to win."

Rafael Marquez

"I'm very well prepared.  I'm going to prepare to my fullest."

"You're going to see a fourth war.  You're going to see all the heart I'm going to put into this fight, and a lot of courage.  You're going to see Rafael Marquez again."

"We're going to make a great fight, and I want all the people from LA to give us their support and to give the support that they've always given to me."

Frank Espinoza Sr.

"One Mexican fighter against another, putting everything on the line for pride, glory, and bragging rights.  On May 22nd, 2010 at the Staples Center that tradition continues.  Rafael Marquez and Israel Vazquez will clash for the fourth time.  After 25 rounds of the most dramatic action ever seen in the boxing ring."

"Their first three fights were unforgettable displays of courage that moved boxing fans around the world.  But this card is about more than these two established legends.  On that same night, the two best bantamweights in the world; Abner Mares and Yonnhy Perez will not only fight for the world title, they'll also be fighting for the right someday, to be called legends."

Frank Espinoza Jr.

"Both men (Vazquez and Marquez) may be humble with words, but they are ferocious with their fists."

"When the first bell rings for the fourth time it can only mean one thing: it's showtime."

Abner Mares

"People have been asking me, 'is this too soon for you?'  There's no doubt in my mind.  People can tell me so much, but I feel and know that I'm ready for this.  Yhonny Perez, he's a great fighter and he's a better friend.  I've known him for quite some time.  We fought three times in the amateurs."

"We know we're going to give the audience a great fight.  Two undefeated kids, he has 20 fights, I have 19 fights, no losses.  We both – none of us want to lose."

"Be ready for May 22nd to see Abner Mares, a future legend, a future Mexican icon.  Abner Mares is here for a long time."

Yonnhy Perez

"A lot of you have heard of the story of me and Abner and how we go way back.  Yes, we were rivals in the ring.  We fought in the amateurs, but it goes deeper than that.  We're really like brothers."
