MMA legend and pioneer Jens "Lil Evil" Pulver recently took time out to talk to FightHype.com about his first love
boxing! Unlike some MMA fighters who have voiced their opinion on the sport, Pulver was actually a professional boxer at one point, compiling a small, but still undefeated record of 4-0 with 3 knockouts as a welterweight. It should come as no surprise that Pulver, like all fans, was disappointed when the mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fell through. That being said, whether or not the fight takes place, he strongly believes there should be no doubt as to who truly is the best pound-for-pound boxer.
"Manny is doing some unbelievable things right now, but you gotta give the pound-for-pound crown to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mayweather can win with his defense alone; that's sickening," Pulver remarked. "I mean, it's unbelievable the things he's able to do in that ring and I haven't seen anyone with two legs that can do the things this guy can inside of that ring. It's really sickening how good he is."
One of the all-time good guys in the sport of MMA, a string of bad luck inside of the cage forced Pulver to contemplate his own retirement from the sport. Although he has left his options open, he plans to take a well-deserved break, leaving plenty of time for him to enjoy the other sport he loves. In the near future, we'll find out if Pulver is correct about Mayweather. First up to prove him wrong is Shane Mosley, when he steps in the ring with Mayweather on May 1st. Will an impressive win over Mosley leave no doubt as to who holds the pound-for-pound?
