Future Hall of Famers Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. were both taken to the hospital immediately following their long-overdue rematch, which Hopkins won via unanimous decision. The bout was filled with a number of fouls which saw both fighters get hit with shots below the belt and to the back of the head. According to reports, Hopkins collapsed in his locker room. On his way to the ambulance, the 45-year-old refused the help of paramedics, so as not to be seen being assisted on the way out. Jones was reportedly also taken to the hospital immediately after the bout.
Although the fight seemed dull at times, there were some intense moments when both fighters exchanged heavy shots with bad intentions on them. Considering that both Hopkins and Jones are over the age of 40, it should come as no surprise that they both felt the effects of the punches landed. On three different occassions, Hopkins went down to the canvas; once from a low blow late in the bout and two times earlier from illegal blows to the back of the head. Jones also received his fair share of illegal blows from Hopkins, perhaps even more, but he never went down or appeared to be in the same type of pain that Hopkins was in.
