While attending the Mayweather vs. Mosley card this past weekend, I received a number of phone calls from people who noticed former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who was on hand to enjoy the event, looking a lot slimmer and trimmer since his last appearance on TV. "Mike's lost 100 pounds," one source close to Tyson would inform me. Given the recent rumors about a comeback, naturally, I did some research to find out if his recent weight loss has anything to do with a possible return to the ring.
"Oh no. He's not coming back; at least I hope not," the same source revealed. So heavyweight fans, don't get too excited. There is, however, a deal in the works for Tyson to appear in his own reality show...and no, this show has nothing to do with pigeons. Evidently, Tyson has been offered $30 million to appear in a reality show where cameras will follow him around as he trains for a fight that would be aired live on the finale. "The opponent has already been picked. I highly doubt Mike will be losing this one," another source with knowledge of the offer stated.
What is unclear, however, is the type of "fight" that Tyson would be involved in. Obviously, I assumed that it would be a boxing match, but the source informed me that the opponent is actually a mixed martial arts fighter. Whether or not that means Tyson will appear inside of a cage remains to be seen, but in the past, he has shown some interest in mixed martial arts, having once been offered a potential clash with K-1 giant Bob Sapp. When asked to elaborate on details of the show, I was simply told that the offer is in place, Tyson is excited about the opportunity and the only thing holding it up is the lack of a promoter's license for the live event.
Regardless of the reality show, it's nice to see Tyson getting himself back to a healthier weight. He appeared to be in good spirts as he laughed, danced and had a good time at the fight.
