"I think they [Team Mayweather] might be turning down the money and waiting until they both get old, thinking that Pacquiao's more breakneck style will wear him out, and then come back and have an old age fight, like Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins did, you know what I mean? That way, they [Team Mayweather] can talk about how they sealed their legacy and their superpowers and all that, if they happen to win that fight, in which they probably think they would because Pacquiao would be so old and beat up by then...he actually fights and takes punishment too, and so does his opponents, but so does he. Mayweather runs and runs and runs and he's probably banking that Pacquiao will get old and worn out and he can probably still make a couple of million and come back and fight him when they are both old men and win some lame decision and go down as the greatest ever; so he thinks, but it won't happen," stated Wild Card Boxing Club staple Shane Langford as he shared his thoughts on whether or not the highly-anticipated clash between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will ever take place. Check it out!
PC: How Have you been Shane?
SL: I'm good, man, just staying busy in the gym.
PC: What do you think about Manny Pacquiao becoming a politician?
SL: I don't know. I have no idea. You know, those guys are doing whatever they are doing. Who knows? I have no fucking clue. I don't even know if he really is a politician or thinks he is or, you know what I mean?
PC: You think they just gave him the position because he's so popular?
SL: Yeah, that's what I mean. It may be some fluff position; it might be real. I have no clue.
PC: A lot of guys coming through the gym, man. I know you got Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. there. What other fighters are there that we can look out for?
SL: Julio Jr., Rashad Holloway is back, and he's looking pretty good these days, Speedy Gonzalez is back and Roberto Garcia. We have a bunch of guys.
PC: They keepin' you busy at Wildcard?
SL: Yeah man. I've been good. I'm just hanging out and trying to make amends, if I can; sometimes it's good and sometimes it's boring doing nothing. No bad stuff lately though; no fights or anything crazy.
PC: We have been talking Pacquiao-Mayweather for a long time now. Are you starting to get the feeling the fight will or won't happen?
SL: I always say I couldn't see them turning down the money. I think, personally, myself, it would be idiocy, but I think they [Team Mayweather] might be turning down the money and waiting until they both get old, thinking that Pacquiao's more breakneck style will wear him out, and then come back and have an old age fight, like Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins did, you know what I mean? That way, they [Team Mayweather] can talk about how they sealed their legacy and their superpowers and all that, if they happen to win that fight, in which they probably think they would because Pacquiao would be so old and beat up by then. He's a fucking fighter; he actually fights and takes punishment too, and so does his opponents, but so does he. Mayweather runs and runs and runs and he's probably banking that Pacquiao will get old and worn out and he can probably still make a couple of million and come back and fight him when they are both old men and win some lame decision and go down as the greatest ever; so he thinks, but it won't happen. If that happened, he won't go down as the greatest ever. He would go down as mediocre. Well, not mediocre. I saw where the Ring Magazine did a story about best ever and he didn't rank that high as one of the greatest guys. There were a couple of guys that will beat him. I'm obviously impressed. He can obviously fight and all, but, I mean, he beat Shane Mosley, who is 48 years old. He fought a few other guys, but I can't remember who he fought. His best fights were like Diego Corrales and those guys. That was a long time ago and Pacquiao has been fighting those caliber of guys since then. He's still fighting them and he was fighting all-time greats at the lighter weights. I don't think Mayweather has ever fought an all-time great. Shane Mosley was 46 years fucking old. I don't know, I just think that that's what they are hoping to do; wait until they are old and that way, they could still have a couple of million in their pocket plus a legacy, but they won't really have a legacy, whether they win or lose that old age fight.
PC: The fighters are steady rolling in for Freddie Roach. You get to see him work with all of these guys firsthand. He still seems to be doing a great job balancing everything.
SL: He just fucking works harder than everybody else and it works out. That's pretty much how he does it. He works with all of his guys. He doesn't have like, I mean, sometimes, I help, Pep helps and sometimes Marcus helps, but mostly it's him. He's got a couple of lackeys running around getting water and shit, like me and other people, but I mean, besides that, he doesn't really have "help" help. He does it all himself, all of it, which is pretty fucking amazing to me. He got some guys that do the mitts, which is not so good. I try to imitate him on the mitts, which obviously doesn't compare; it is a joke. Other people try to and say they do, but they don't. None of them do. I can't do it and neither can they. We try our best and it's just not good enough because Freddie is pretty fucking good man.
PC: Have you watched any good boxing lately? Super 6 Tournament or anything?
SL: I haven't watched any good fights. I have been busy. I haven't seen shit. I can't even remember the last fight I saw. I can't even remember. It's busy. I start at 5 in the morning with cleaning stuff up and I usually work until like 8 at night. And then I have a couple of hours to sit around and...whoa...I see this really nice looking Jewish chick right now.
PC: (Laughing)
SL: But then, that's it. I go to sleep and that's it. The next day starts and it's the same thing. I have just been busy. I personally haven't had a chance to watch a good fight lately.
PC: Do you think eventually Freddie will have to expand Wildcard?
SL: I hope so. That way, we can actually get classes going and stuff and make some decent money. It's not like...we get good money, I guess, from clients, but we need to make more. I would like to make tons more. I would like to do classes. On the other hand, if he don't, I'm doing pretty well and I'm pretty happy.
PC: Thanks for your time Shane. It's always good talking to you my man. Hit me up anytime.
SL: Thank you Percy. I will too.
