If he was just as adamant about making the super-fight happen as he was about pushing for a Williams-Martinez rematch, wouldn't it be a big statement by Ross Greenburg if he put his foot down like he did with the Klitschkos? This would mean that Pacquiao's fall fight against disgraced former champion Antonio Margarito, or former conquest Miguel Cotto, would be a Top Rank exclusive pay-per-view and whatever Mayweather decides to do would be exclusive to Golden Boy. Hopefully, the much smaller payday would get both fighters to see the big picture and come to an agreement. That being said, the amount of money alone that both fighters generate for the network makes such a bold move impossible, leaving HBO with little choice but to distribute an PPV bout that they fight in. Hey, you can't blame me for dreaming.
Just When You Thought I Forgot About Amir "Con"
Following Timothy Bradley's excellent performance against Luis Agrebu last weekend, WBA Jr. Welterweight champion Khan issued the following statement to Bradley via twitter: "Im fighting timothy bradley next I'm gona tell goldenboy. Let's see if they want it for real. Talk is cheap." Yet, just when it seems Khan is actually ready to fight a dangerous opponent, his local newspaper, The Bolton Times, catches Khan doing a complete 180 in regards to the above statement and confirming he's going to fight the Marquez-Diaz winner. From the horses ass himself: "It is nearly agreed that I will fight the winner and I would like it to be over here next time, but it depends on the opponent and the broadcasters." Talk is cheap, indeed.
Interesting Developments For Klitschko vs. Povetkin
Recently, the manager for top-rated Heavyweight contender Alexander Povetkin revealed that Wladmir Klitschko has indeed agreed to WADA drug testing for their proposed clash this September. The first time this ever happened was last May's fight between Floyd Mayweather and Sugar Shane Mosley, in which Mayweather dominated Mosley en route to a unanimous decision. The final blood test for that bout was taken 18 days before both men stepped into the ring, but the randomness of the testing existed all the way up until fight night, meaning had they desired, USADA could have taken another blood test at any point. Although no network was going to pick up this bout, it would be yet another instance of more stringent drug testing being used prior to a fight. Of course, that was before the recent announcement that, due to the fact that Povetkin did not show up for a press conference earlier this week to announce the fight and he has yet to sign any contracts, the IBF has removed him from their top ten rankings, giving Wladimir Klitschko the approval to move forward and face the next top available opponent on September 11 in Frankfurt. That opponent just so happens to be Sam Peter, who Klitschko already defeated in 2005 via unanimous decision after surviving three knockdowns. Just when you thought heavyweight division couldn't get any messier, it just did!
