PACQUIAO STILL WANTS MAYWEATHER IN NOVEMBER; HOPES DON KING CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN

"I hope Mayweather is serious enough in doing business with Don King and is not doing this only to save face. I hope Don King does the same in return, that he can make miracles happen. I say this to both these men: Let's Get It On," stated pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao, who made it clear that he still prefers to face undefeated multi-divison champion Floyd Mayweather when he steps into the ring on November 13. In a recent statement released at Philboxing.com, the Filipino icon expressed his support in the prospect of Don King and Floyd Mayweather possibly working together and hopes that's the union might bring a November 13 mega-fight to fruition.

"Fight like warriors and brave men. I am the champion, I have the belts and I should not be the one challenging you. I should not even be the one trying to make this fight happen. But Pacquiao vs Mayweather is what everyone wants, that's why I am calling out your names," Pacquiao continued, "My promoter Bob Arum will be waiting for your call and will be very glad to hear what you have to say. The sooner, the better." Of course, while Pacquiao is hoping that a bout with Mayweather can still be made for November 13, his promoter, Bob Arum, is moving swiftly to finalize details for a clash with Antonio Margarito instead. Although Pacquiao appears to be waiting to see what, if anything, will happen between Mayweather and King, the window of opportunity is small given that the only issue left for Arum to resolve in regards to a bout with Margarito is the location of the event.

Regardless, without any knowledge of what's transpired between Mayweather and King, Pacquiao felt the need to remind everyone that he's still focused on fighting Floyd in November, despite the fact that his entire team appears to be working hard to do just the opposite. "This is the only way for Mayweather to save face. Make the fight happen in November and stop using Mr. Don King for publicity stunts. He claims he is the best. He says he is No. 1. There is only one way to prove his greatness and that is to face me. I should be ready by November," Pacquiao added.

So just to recap for those of you who might be even more confused with the ongoing soap opera that is Mayweather vs. Pacquiao:

  • Floyd Mayweather hangs out with Don King for a few days
  • Don King says he could make the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight happen IF he was promoting Floyd Mayweather.
  • Bob Arum agrees and says that both he and Don King could easily make the fight, assuming that King can convince Mayweather to accept Manny Pacqiuao's latest terms, which we assume to be a 50/50 purse split and a 14-day cutoff for random blood testing.
  • Bob Arum and Michael Koncz continue to work hard to solidify a venue for a November 13 bout between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito.
  • Manny Pacquiao says he supports Don King and Floyd Mayweather working together and hopes that King can convince Mayweather to accept the terms so they can fight in November.
In other words, Manny Pacquiao still wants to fight Floyd Mayweather on November 13, but he's going to be fighting Antonio Margarito instead. Expect Bob Arum to announce the venue in the next couple of days. Even if King and Mayweather did agree to work together, there's no way whatsoever that the two sides would miraculously agree to all terms without another lengthy negotiation process. Not to mention, Mayweather's manager, Al Haymon, isn't exactly the biggest fan of Don King, so the prospect of the two working together without having their own lengthy battle means we can forget about Mayweather stepping into the ring in November. Fans have already accepted that fact and have moved on to other fights in boxing. Perhaps it's time for Manny Pacquiao to do the same.
