"The year ain't over yet and there's still plenty of time to fight," stated world-class trainer Roger Mayweather, who hinted that there's a possibility that his nephew, Floyd Mayweather, will indeed fight again some time later this year. "I'm sure you'll see Floyd fight before the year's out," he continued, revealing the surprising news in a recent interview where he talked about Manny Pacquiao almost to the point of obsession.
"This fight has to happen; we want this fight," Mayweather exclaimed while speaking to John Martinez of FightChronicles.com. "The fight for my nephew is Manny. This is the fight that makes the most sense when talking about money making, but also, this fight has to happen cause it's important to the fans. The people want to see this fight and they should get what they want."
Whether or not Mayweather will actually return some time later is questionable, given that HBO is quickly filling up the remainder of their dates with other fights, however, Roger does sound as though he's just as anxious to see Floyd step into the ring with Manny Pacquiao as fans are. The only problem, however, still appears to be the same hurdle that has prevented the fight from taking place all along: random blood testing. Contrary to reports that Pacquiao had agreed to "acceptable terms" regarding Mayweather's request for Olympic-style random blood testing during the second round of negotiations, Roger revealed that just the opposite was true.
"The only reason this fight hasn't happened is because Manny won't agree to random blood tests throughout training camp," Mayweather explained. "This motherfucker says he agreed to tests, but he really didn't. He wants to know when these tests are happening and he wants them to end at a certain time." It's unclear as to what "acceptable terms" Team Pacquiao actually did agree to, but we do know that Manny himself released a statement which stated that he would agree to a 14-day cutoff for blood testing.
"How the fuck is that random drug testing? If you got nothing to hide, then why be so concerned about when you gotta take a drug test? I know why. 'Cause you got something to hide," Roger continued. "How you gonna leave over 100 million dollars on the table cause you don't want to take random drug tests leading up to the fight? My nephew brought this testing up because going into the fight with Shane Mosley, Shane had a history of using substances. And now with Manny, we got our suspicions," he added, reiterating his concern that Pacquiao may be using performance enhancing drugs, despite the fact that he's never tested positive or given any reason for doubt other than the tremendous success he's had over the past two years while moving from Super Featherweight to Welterweight.
Should Mayweather indeed decide to return some time later this, fans are sure to be upset with the fact that Manny Pacquiao won't be standing across from him inside the ring. The question, however, is who could Mayweather actually face that would be a suitable enough opponent to please the high expectations of fans? I hear undefeated WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto is still trying to figure out what his next move will be.
