FightHype.com has just been informed by future Hall of Famer James "Lights Out" Toney that his return to the sweet science will likely take place November 5th in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan at the famous Joe Louis Arena. If the date and venue sounds familiar to boxing fans, it's because another future Hall of Famer, 4-time heavyweight champion Evander "The Real Deal" Holyfield, will be fighting on the same card against Sherman Williams. An opponent has yet to be named for Toney, but rest assured, there are no future plans to set up a rematch with Holyfield, who Toney easily defeated nearly 7 years ago, stopping him in the 9th round in his debut at heavyweight.
In all likeliness, Toney's appearance on the card will no doubt help sell tickets in Detroit, but the quick return to the ring is a good sign for a fighter who needs to stay active in order to stay motivated. Toney is fresh off of a disappointing MMA debut against UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture. Despite being submitted in a little over 3 minutes, he vows to continue to compete in both sports, but for now, Toney is already back in the gym, sharpening the tools he'll need when he steps back into a ring. Toney's last boxing match took place nearly a year ago, when he knocked out little-known Matthew Greer in the second round. In the future, perhaps Antonio Tarver, who's making his heavyweight debut next month, or Cristobal Arreola, who's fresh off of a victory over Manuel Quezada on ESPN2, will have the courage to test their skills against Toney, who continues to wonder why most heavyweights are unwilling to face him if he's as washed up as some people state.
