SERGIO MARTINEZ: "THEY FORCED THIS FIGHT ON PAUL...I PLAN TO PUNISH HIM"

By Mike Juhas | September 21, 2010
SERGIO MARTINEZ:

"They forced this fight on Paul Williams, not me. I'm out to avenge my loss...It will be more intense than the last time. I plan to punish him even more than last time...I'm really motivated for Paul Williams.  My wish has come true," stated middleweight king Sergio Martinez as he talked about his upcoming November 20 rematch with Paul Williams. Check it out!

MJ: So what's the latest Sergio? I hear you've got some good news.

SM: I'm fighting Paul Williams on November 20; it's official.  The press conference is on Thursday.

MJ: Did HBO force this fight on you?

SM: They forced this fight on Paul Williams, not me. I'm out to avenge my loss.

MJ: What is the purse split?

SM: It's 50-50.

MJ: Do you feel you have to do anything different in this fight, or will it be the same game plan as last time?

SM: It will be more intense than the last time. I plan to punish him even more than last time.

MJ: Where will you train for this fight?

SM: In Oxnard, California.

MJ: How do you feel going from one difficult fight to another difficult fight with no break?

SM: That is motivation, to have a hard fight. I'm really motivated for Paul Williams.  My wish has come true.

MJ: Is this fight going to be on pay-per-view or regular HBO?

SM: It'll be on HBO after the replay of Pacquiao-Margarito.

MJ: Who do you think wins Pacquiao-Margarito?

SM: Pacquiao will win with no major inconvenience because he's really an excellent fighter.

MJ: Will there be a countdown show to hype the fight?

SM: I don't know; it's up to HBO.

MJ: Recently we've read about Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather Jr. getting into trouble outside of the ring.  What do you do to keep yourself away from those kinds of troubles?

SM: Before I came to be a champion and well-known, I had my feet on the ground.  Now that I'm the champion, I keep my humble ways.  But more important than deciding to be a boxer, I decided to be an example for future boxers and the youth.  I've never done any drugs or raised my hands to anyone outside of the ring.  I'm focused in my life.  I want to be an example to others, not someone who is criticized by people in the industry.

MJ: Of the fights this past Saturday night, Canelo Alvarez was the most impressive.  Do you think you'll ever share the ring with Canelo Alvarez?

SM: It would most likely be my last fight because he's too young now.  It's not the right time for Canelo to think about me.  I have a lot of respect for Canelo, but he still has a ways to go.  I would love to meet him at the end of my career, but right now, the only fight on my agenda is Paul Williams.  I always want the best; no easy fights for me.  I want to make a statement in the middleweight division, just like Carlos Monzon did in the past.

MJ: Is there anything else you'd like to say to the fans at FightHype.com?

SM: To all the fans of boxing, don't miss this next fight.  It'll be something unforgettable.
