"I've been looking at some of the names at 130 and the people who hold the titles and I can take all of them. So anyone who thinks they the best at 130; top 15, I want all of them. I think I can hang with them at 130. I forgot some of the names, but I want 'em. I believe in myself. I've been fighting 135 and 140, and going down to 130, I don't see nobody there," stated super featherweight Edner Cherry as he talked about his move down in weight in hopes of capturing a world title. EB: How you doing?
EC: I'm good; hanging in there. Just waiting to get back in the ring. It's been close to 8 months. I last fought in February. I fought twice in February.
EB: Your promoter [TKO Promotions] working on anything for you?
EC: I don't know. I'm just in the gym working and waiting for the word; just trying to stay in the best shape I can til I get back in the ring.
EB: Yeah, you fought like 8 days apart in February and haven't seen action since. Are you fighting lightweight or 140?
EC: Naw, right now, I am fighting at 130. Normally I would fight at lightweight, but I went up to 140 to fight Paulie Malignaggi and Timothy Bradley. Since after the Bradley fight, I went down. You can see the catchweights. Like in December, when I fought in California at 130-something, then in February, I fought at 132/133, somewhere around there. I usually fight at a catchweight. I didn't want to fight for nothing, so we usually do a catchweight.
EB: You gotta get back in the ring. We already know you are a gym rat. Anyone you want to call out?
EC: Man, anybody in the top 10 or top 15 at 130. I've been looking at some of the names at 130 and the people who hold the titles and I can take all of them. I've been fighting 135 and 140, and going down to 130, I don't see nobody there. I've been in the ring with great fighters, Malignaggi and Bradley, and other good fighters in my career, but I don't see nobody at 130.
EB: Would you be willing to fight at 135?
EC: Right now, to be honest, I'd rather not because I can easily make 130. I want to pass that and fight at 130 and make some noise in that division. I want to fight the best in that division. That's what boxing is about, fighting the best. If you say you the best, step up to the plate.
EB: Is your promoter not getting anything, or are you not in touch?
EC: I don't know. I just let them do their job and I do my part. I don't want to have too much on my shoulders, so I can focus. So when the time comes, I can be ready. That's why I got them. I was supposed to fight in Canada on ESPN2, but I had to pull out because of my residence paperwork. So now I got to wait now.
EB: I know you want to get back in the mix and get that world title
EC: Yes sir. That is my dream. I've stayed in there and never gave up. My losses and my ups and downs, I never gave up. I want to go out there and get a world title, so when I'm done, I can look back and say I fought the best and won a world title. I don't want to wait too long because after the Bradley fight, I didn't fight for a year and some months. Then I moved down and fought in California and knocked out a guy in 3 rounds.
EB: Yeah, a lot of people don't realize you are only 28. You have been around for a minute.
EC: (Laughs) Yeah, I still got some good years in me. I can box. I have not been in some wars and all beat up. I fought when I was 18 and I am still in the mix. I never gave up.
EB: So you are ready for anyone at 130. Guess you got to put pressure on your promoters to get you back in the ring. You don't want to be inactive again for a year or more. Let 'em know the Cherry Bomb Edner Cherry is still in the mix.
EC: Yeah, I want to tell my fans to support me. Keep on believing in me. But Edner Cherry will be back! Look for me! I am still in the gym training and waiting for a fight.
