FROM PILLAR TO POST: CAN GLEN JOHNSON MAKE SIX

Allan Green is returning to the Super Six. I'll wait...please take your time as you groan in displeasure. It's unbeknownst to me why Showtime would want to waste their money on him after his non-effort in the ass beating he took against Andre Ward last Spring. Not to mention, he has next to no chance of heading to the semi finals. Be that as it may, Green is on his way back onto the airwaves. The good news from this, however, is that former 175-pound champion Glen Johnson will enter the tournament as Green's opponent.

Johnson was last seen in a close quarters slugfest with IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud, coming up short on the scorecards in a very exciting fight. Johnson is 41, but he still has plenty left to give, unlike the younger Green, who's 30 and has absolutely nothing to offer. Assuming Johnson will make the weight, and he says he can despite not having done it in nearly 10 years, I can only hope that we will see the last of Allan Green for a while.

Gary Shaw Stands by His Man Angulo

Last week, Michael Marley put out a story regarding the legal woes of Alfredo Angulo, who is seriously facing deportation back to Mexico after illegally entering the United States for a second time. This caught everybody by surprise, including Angulo's promoter, Gary Shaw, who was none to happy to hear about this development following Angulo turning down a career-high purse to face Sergio Martinez. In a conversation I had with Shaw, he informed me that he intends on continuing to promote Angulo, regardless of the outcome.

I think that's a very good move for Shaw, to stay with Angulo for the time being. While HBO and Showtime may not air Angulo's fights due to the situation, it doesn't really do anything to his overall popularity as a fighter. If Angulo does continue his career south of the border, he'll make big money down there until all the red tape clears. If the Klitschko's have proven anything, it's that you can always make a fortune fighting back home.

Buck-Buck-Brrawk

Now that WBA jr. middleweight champion Miguel Cotto has decided to pass on a December 4th fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Chavez will now be facing Alfonso Gomez instead on the December date. As such, Chavez has somehow found the time to head to the Phillipines to train with trainer Freddie Roach, despite his earlier objections of going when the potential fight with Cotto was nearly finalized earlier this month.

I'm really at a loss here with Chavez. First he backs out of a fight with Kelly Pavlik, even after internal chatter from promoter Top Rank and trainer Roach revealed that they both thought Pavlik was finished. Now this...a fight with a former Contender star who was last seen beating up on a shot Jose Luis Castillo just south of the welterweight limit. Looks to me that there's no Mexican heart in that kid, only a yellow belly. It's only reason that would explain why the 160-pound Chavez would prefer facing a welterweight as opposed to a former middleweight champion.

Antonio Tarver burst onto the scene almost six years ago when he closed his eyes, threw a hailmary and knocked out Roy Jones Jr. to become the light heavyweight champion and boxing's flavor of the month. At 42, and clearly at the end of his career, Tarver is hoping a trip up to Heavyweight will get him out of the shadow of his much more famous conquered foe, a shadow he has been under his entire career. Be sure to check out my take on the situation.
