WBA champion David Haye wasn't impressed by Vitali Klitschko's destruction of Shannon Briggs last weekend. As a matter of fact, Haye went as far as to say that both Klitschkos only fight washed-up American fighters and would gladly fight the two if the opportunity arose. Funny, Haye's heavyweight conquests includes wins over 39-year-old Monte Barrett, 37-year-old John Ruiz and a hidious title winning effort against 37-year-old Nikolai Valuev. It seems that, for the most part, Haye too also only fights washed-up fighters that are mostly American.
The Ruiz and Valuev fights came after the fact that Haye twice turned down fights from both Klitschkos, even when the brothers have both offered him an undeserving equal split of the fight purse. Well, on top of finding another way of turning down yet another offer from the Klitschkos, Haye has a lot on his mind, namely a fight with 38-year-old Audley Harrison next month in the U.K., a fight in which he equates the beating he'll dish out to Harrison as bad as being gang raped. I guess boxing has plenty of room for idiots.
Morales Continuing Improbable and Unecessary Comeback
Erik Morales is marching for a shot at a title in a fourth weight class at either Lightweight or Junior Welterweight and may get one step closer this December. Morales will be fighting troubled ex-champion Jorge Barrios if both sides come to agreement as a split broadcast to air alongside the Bernard Hopkins/Jean Pascal title fight. The fight will take place at 140 pounds and will be for the WBC silver title thanks to Morales being Mexican as well as WBC chairman Jose Suliman's lust for Mexican fighters and sanctioning fees.
Morales really should beat Barrios, but it is looking less likely he'll make it back to 135 and will have to settle for a title fight against the winner of the Timothy Bradley-Devon Alexander fight this January. I don't think Morales had much of a chance against Juan Manuel Marquez if they had fought, and I absolutely know he isn't going to be a threat to any Junior Welterweight that has a pulse.
