"J. Prince is negotiating with Bob right now. We'll all probably know something by Thursday or Friday; by the end of the week," stated three-division world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley, who gave us an update on the status of a potential showdown with pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao. Although neighter fighter has officially put pen to paper, it sounds as if their signatures is a mere formality. "I'm just waiting for the right time to go out there and sign the contract properly. They're going over all of the details and discussing everything right now, so I'm just waiting," Mosley explained.
The details that still need to be ironed out include the weight at which the bout will take place. It's unclear as to whether or not Pacquiao plans on defending the WBC jr. middleweight title he just won after his 12-round beating of Antonio Margarito in a bout which took place at a catchweight of 150 pounds. Mosley's last bout took place at the normal jr. middleweight limit of 154 pounds, but the former welterweight champion has no problems dropping back down to 147 pounds if Pacquiao so desires. "I'm not sure if we'd be fighting for the jr. middleweight title or if we'd fight for the welterweight title, but either way, I think it's going to be 147. And whatever Freddie Roach is talking about [regarding Mosley subjecting himself to drug testing], that's fine with me as long as Pacquiao is doing the same thing that I'm doing; let's go do it," he added, responding to comments made by Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, who told The Philippine Star that he'll "insist on a drug test" because "he's been known to take steroids and it shows in his body."
Assuming all goes well with the conversations between James Prince and Bob Arum, which I'm lead to believe they will, expect a holiday gift in the form of an announcement coming very soon.
