Sources close to the situation have informed us that as soon as two-division world champion Paul Williams is ready to make his return to the ring, HBO is extremely interested in matching him against former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron. The bout would be a rematch of their first encounter in May of 2010 that saw Williams earning an odd technical decision victory when Cintron was unable to continue after tripping through the ropes and landing on the floor midway throught the fourth round.
Although Cintron was adamant about wanting an immediate rematch, Williams instead moved forward with a rematch against middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, who knocked him out cold with one punch in the second round back in November. Cintron, on the other hand, has yet to fight since their first encounter.
Taking a much-needed break, Williams has been vacationing in Hawaii and Puerto Rico as he contemplates his next move following his devastating loss. Whether or not he decides to take it slow in his comeback remains to be seen, but it's clear that HBO doesn't plan on giving Williams too soft of a touch.
