Roger Mayweather, who was charged with two felony battery counts stemming from an altercation with female boxer Melissa St. Vil in August of 2009, copped a plea with prosecutors that will allow him to avoid a trial and possible jail time if he were found guilty. According to his attorney, Jack Buchanan, Mayweather pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor counts of battery and is expected to pay a $1,000 fine, attend domestic violence counseling and perform 50 hours of community service. Althgouh the deal will place him on probation, Mayweather will now be able to put the case behind him.
That's good news for those of you who may have actually believed Bob Arum's excuse last July that Roger's legal problems were a barrier to making the highly-anticipated showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao a reality. That being said, there's still the small issue of Floyd's legal problems. Of course, if Roger's case is any indication, perhaps Floyd is already doing his best Monty Hall impersonation in hopes of making his own deal with the prosecutors of his case.
