EMANUEL AUGUSTUS: "I WANT TO END ON A GOOD NOTE"

By Percy Crawford | February 16, 2011
EMANUEL AUGUSTUS:

"I still got a little something in the tank, but when I look at it right now, it seems like it was all for nothing. It's almost like people are getting tired of talking about me and they don't care if I get wins or losses. It doesn't even matter to them anymore...I just want to finish boxing on the good foot. I want to end on a good note and I will fight anybody to do that. I just want to really put some wins together. That's what it's all about for me. I'm 36 years old, but the light Is getting darker and darker. I gotta make things happen and the only way to make things happen is to start winning these fights and that's all there is to it," stated jr. welterweight Emanuel Augustus as he talked about his future plans and much more. Check it out!

PC: What's good Emanuel?

EA: Just trying to get it to all come together man.

PC: I know you were serious about retiring after your fight with Vernon Paris. After the fight, you told my partner that you couldn't retire after the way that fight went down. It's gotta be getting tough to keep dealing with some of the raw deals you've received in boxing?

EA: Man, it's very frustrating. It kinda really irks me, but it is what it is and I gotta do what I gotta do. I don't have time to dwell on it too much.

PC: You took the fight on 2-weeks notice and went out and banged it out with one of the top prospects in the world. Does that let you know that you still belong?

EA: Well, it lets me know I still got a little something in the tank, but when I look at it right now, it seems like it was all for nothing. It's almost like people are getting tired of talking about me and they don't care if I get wins or losses. It doesn't even matter to them anymore.

PC: Once they started to deduct points from you, did you get the sense that it's about to be another one of those kinda nights?

EA: Kinda sort of, but it's been such a long time since I had a crazy situation like that in the ring. I felt it a little bit, but it wasn't overwhelming. There were no bells or anything that went off in my head when it started happening.

PC: What did you think of Vernon Paris as a fighter; anything surprise you about him?

EA: He's a good fighter. I gotta be honest with you, I didn't expect for him to be as polished as he was. He got some good shots on me here and there. I didn't expect...maybe I'm...I don't want to say I'm getting old, but certain things...I've been boxing for awhile and I kind of expect certain things when my opponents start throwing punches. I am already programmed to what they are going to do. It's cool when you run across somebody that can mix it up pretty good. I was happy about it. At the end of the day, I didn't get scarred, bruised or stopped. At the end of the day, I am happy about that. I can still speak well, I can still say my name, and I can still spell my name. I'm cool with that.

PC: You haven't had the luxury to have 6 to 8 week training camps. There are a lot of people that would not have taken a Vernon Paris fight on 2 weeks notice. You really stay prepared.

EA: I guess my ignorance is my forte because I didn't even know who the hell the guy was to say, "Hey man, I need more time." it is what it is. I stay in the gym and I stay ready like any professional boxer is supposed to. All of these cats running around here with they high dollar promoters, that's all fine and good, but as a fighter in general, just period, whether you have people behind you or not, you gotta keep yourself ready to go at all times. I'm not mad and I'm not tripping; you just gotta take the bitter with the sweet.

PC: Marco Antonio Barrera just won a fight at 140 and now that you're not retiring, I would love to see you two hook up and fight. Is that someone you would be interested in fighting?

EA: I just want to finish boxing on the good foot. I want to end on a good note and I will fight anybody to do that. I just want to really put some wins together. That's what it's all about for me. I'm 36 years old, but the light Is getting darker and darker. I gotta make things happen and the only way to make things happen is to start winning these fights and that's all there is to it.

PC: I appreciate your time. I'm glad to see that you chose to fight on. Is there anything that you want to say to your supporters in closing?

EA: Shit man, just keep on fucking with ya man and keep posted up on what I'm doing. We gonna keep truckin' and I'm gonna keep trying to climb to the top of the division.
