According to reports, undefeated jr. middleweight Omar Henry (10-0, 8 KO's) has decided to test the waters in mixed martial arts. Henry, who was recently released from his promotional contract with Top Rank Promotions, first informed his fans via Facebook that he's currently training for his debut in the combat sport. When asked earlier today if the news was true, Henry simply replied, "Yup!" It's a dangerous move for the talented Puerto Rican, who could potentially jeopardize his boxing career should he suffer a serious injury, however, having been on the shelf for nearly a year, a brotha's gotta eat and until he can finalize a new deal with another promoter, Henry has been left with very few options to make a living.
According to sources, Golden Boy Promotions has already shown interest in the Puerto Rican and is currently negotiating with his manager, Cameron Dunkin. During his extended layoff, Henry has been staying busy with his training, getting in work at various gyms throughout California and Las Vegas. Most recently, he worked with Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz, who successfully defended his title this past weekend. It was likely the work he did with Diaz that sparked the idea to make the move to mixed martial arts.
