He is a guy that don't mind being in the trenches and he goes hard, so basically, I had to try to get him to understand that he has too much height and too much reach to give up those types of advantages. And now he is starting to understand how he should be fighting...even though he is a tall and slender guy, he has extremely good movement on his legs. When Celestino has his legs under him, no one is going to beat him; not at 126 pounds. They don't have a chance," stated world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather, who talked about Celestino Caballero's succesful title defense last month in Japan and shared his thoughts Victor Ortiz, Andre Berto, Nonito Donaire, and much more. Floyd Mayweather currently holds the WBC welterweight title, but with his announcement that he will be moving up in weight to face WBA jr. middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, there's a possibility that the title will become vacant. Given that Alexander and Ortiz are both ranked in the top 3 of the organization, there's a chance that they could see themselves fighting for the title in the not so distant future.

The only thing is I think Cotto is too slow for Floyd. He's like one step behind Floyd. Cotto may be a little stronger, but he's a counter puncher, and he's a counter puncher that's not fast enough to counter Floyd. So that's going to create a problem for him and in order for him to give himself a chance to win, he's going to have to lead. He's going to have to come out of his comfort zone and do something he's never done before: become the aggressor and be the guy that's gotta press the fight, because if he don't, he's not going to have a chance at all. Floyd will pick him apart. He has no chance at all to try to sit back and outthink Floyd; he can forget it.
NSAC APPROVES MAYWEATHER'S REQUEST FOR BOXING LICENSE; CLEARED FOR MAY 5 SHOWDOWN WITH COTTO

Moments ago, the Nevada State Athletic Commission approved Floyd Mayweather's request for a boxing license to face WBA jr. middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Mayweather, who was sentenced to 90 days in jail after accepting a plea bargain in his domestic violence case, had his original surrender date of January 6 pushed back to June 1 on the condition that he was already scheduled to fight in Las Vegas on May 5. Citing an agreement with the previous District Attorney, who gave Mayweather permission to commit to the date prior to accepting the plea, his attorneys requested the postponement "on behalf of the community and the economic impact that a fight of this magnitude has." Up until today, it was still unclear as to whether or not Mayweather would actually be allowed to fight, as he was required to appear before the commission to answer questions surrounding his sentencing.

MAYWEATHER VS. COTTO AT 154 DONE DEAL FOR MAY 5

Many were under the assumption that because the fight was taking place on Cinco de Mayo, Mayweather would look to finalize a deal with a Mexican opponent. WBC jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez was rumored to be the leading candidate to land the assignment, but evidently, those reports may have been extremely premature. Mayweather confirmed that Cotto was his next opponent earlier today during his hearing to get his boxing license reinstated.

For promoter Bob Arum, it's always been about the date and earlier today, he confirmed that fact with Lance Pugmire of the LA Times. "They don't want to fight in late May," Arum would explain of the Mayweather camp, reiterating the stance he's taken for the past two months that "there is no magic in May 5th" as far as he was concerned. "It's dead for May, so we should sit down with everybody, let Mayweather fight someone else May 5 and we'll fight someone else June 9, and then let's get a signed contract for [Mayweather-Pacquiao] in November. That's a win-win for everybody."

AUSTIN TROUT: "MUNDINE NEEDS TO HURRY UP AND MAKE A DECISION...I'M TRYING TO FIGHT"

"Mundine needs to hurry up and make a decision. I hope the WBA enforces something quick because I'm trying to make them some money too...Fighting Delvin would be better for my career, in my opinion, in the U.S. The Mundine fight, I would go to Australia to fight, just not in certain places where they don't have any regulations. We'll try to go to Melbourne or someplace like that...I'm not running from my mandatory. I'm looking to get back in there as soon as possible," stated WBA jr. middleweight champion Austin Trout, who is eager to get back in the ring to defend his title, but he's waiting for his mandatory challenger, Anthony Mundine, to decide if he wants to make the fight. If not, Trout is prepared to move forward and face Delvin Rodriguez. Check out what else he had to say!

MANNY'S MILLIONS: THE ANATOMY OF A FIGHTER'S PAY

With all the latest talk about guaranteed purses and revenue splits, I decided to take a much closer look into the anatomy of a bout agreement, namely that of Manny Pacquiao and how it relates to Top Rank and his co-promotional agreement with them. The majority of this information is public record. While some of it is taken directly from comments made by Pacquiao's own promoter, Bob Arum, a good portion of information is derived from a copy of a 23-page lawsuit document filed by Golden Boy Promotions against Top Rank in 2010. In that document, you can find details of how the percentages are split up to derive his purse guarantee, his promotional guarantee, as well as any additional revenue he may earn from the net profits. On the surface, the information may seem complex, but if you follow along, you'll find that's easier than you think and extremely educational.
