Every day they say things about me...Everybody wanna be better than Mayweather. If that's meant to be, it's meant to be," stated undefeated former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, who talked about his life in retirement, the Mayweather Curse, and much more. Check it out!
BT: How's retirement going, Champ?
FM: Everything is going great. As of right now, I'm staying in Miami. I got a new house that just got built on the water. I'm very, very appreciative and I'm very thankful that I'm able to have homes everywhere. I still have my high-rise in Miami. Now I have a new home built on the water, something that I always wanted. I currently have places in Las Vegas, L.A., New York, and Miami. I have a lot of my toys in Miami right now, you know, my man toys. I shipped two of my Bugattis to Miami. I have my FF Ferrari here. I have a limited Breitling Bentley here in Miami. It's only 7 made in the whole world. I purchased number 7 in Las Vegas a few days before the Berto fight. I also have my...you know, one of my Jeeps caught on fire before when it was getting shipped, so I got another custom Jeep made. You got to have that Jeep for Miami. I made very, very smart investments. I'm very, very thankful to have Al [Haymon] in my corner. I'm very appreciative for Al and I really mean that. He is the best when it comes to business. I was able to leave the game, leave the sport of boxing, with 9 figures and I made some very, very smart investments. As of right now, I get 7 figures a month for the rest of my life.
BT: So what do you do with all that free time?
FM: Well, what I do every day is I swim. I'm in Miami, so I love to swim in the ocean. I love to go to LIV on Sundays. Of course I love to go to the strip club. I like to live my life. I love the strip clubs, you know. I like to go for walks on the beach. There's so many different things that I love to do and I'm thankful that I was able to retire a year before my 40th birthday. Most of the time I'm in Miami, but I be in New York City also. I got a real nice place in New York City; very, very nice. Those are the places to be. I love Las Vegas, love L.A., love New York, and I love Miami. But I love being in the ocean. And there's nothing like taking those two Bugattis out with the tops off. One of the Bugattis cost me $3.5 million and the other one cost me $3 million. I just called my car guy, Obie, and you know I got one of the most expensive cars in the world, Koenigsegg, that's on it's way out here. That's $4.8 million, so it's safe to round it off to $5 million. I still got a bunch of toys still in Las Vegas. I still got Lamborghinis and Ferraris and Rolls Royce Phantom limousines. For my mother's 60th birthday, I bought her a Maybach. I'm always buying my dad and my mother gifts. My dad, bought him a big face Rolex, 41 millimeters. I'm always buying my family and my friends gifts. We only got one life to live. If we can afford the finer things in life, why not? A lot of times, you hear certain things like, "Oh, Floyd is going to be broke. Floyd can't read. Floyd can't write." Well the thing is this, for those that don't know, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. The great thing about my career is that I was able to leave on my own terms. I don't feel like my career is over. Promoting fighters is also one of my goals. It wasn't all about just fighting. You have to continue to set different goals for yourself and now, of course, the ultimate goal is to find a pay-per-view star.
BT: Obviously you're still involved in the sport with your promotional company. You guys recently added some new names to the roster, right?
FM: I'm growing. I'm happy that I'm able to put guys not in a good position, but a great position. My thing is this, I didn't come this far to give the sport my whole life to talk about no other company. It's about one company and one company only: Mayweather Promotions! That's all it's about. I just think everybody should just focus on Mayweather Promotions and nothing else in the fight game. If it's not about Mayweather Promotions, why even pay attention? If it's not coming from FightHype; I mean, you got other writers and I'm not knocking any other writers. I want them to continue to write their stories, but they're going to write their stories because they're probably on the payroll. The thing is this, you've been giving me a fair shake from day one, so anything I can do to help FightHype, I'm going to help them. At one particular time, you were the only one defending me. I'm entitled to have my own opinion and I'm going to say this, FightHype is, bar none, pound-for-pound the best in the business. What I don't like is fighters that don't want to give you an interview. I don't like that. Fighters get a couple of fights under their belts, win a couple of fights, and be like, "Oh, no, I'm not doing an interview. You gotta talk to my manager." Listen, I made hundreds and hundreds of millions and I'm going to continue to give you interviews. I keep trying to tell these fighters, because you got every color of Jordans on your feet and you got a Rolex watch on your wrist and you got a Cuban link on your neck and you got a Benz, that don't mean you made it. To all the fighters that don't want to do an interview with you, this is coming from the heart, this is coming from Floyd Mayweather, fuck you! So every fighter that don't want to do an interview with FightHype, you're hearing it from me, fuck you!
BT: Man, as always, I really appreciate that endorsement, Champ. You mentioned other writers and not getting a fair shake from them. Do you think some of them are starting to miss you more now than maybe they thought they would?
FM: Before I fought Pacquiao, for years, they scrutinized me and said so many things about me. Every day they say things about me. They say things about me all the time. "Floyd can't spell. He can't do math. He can't read." Everyone is entitled to their own opinon. I don't care. You gotta realize this, they're going to do anything they can do to take away from my legacy. It's too good to be true, so they want to do anything they can do to take away from it. They're going to say and do whatever they have to do because they're not happy. I mean, you gotta realize, you go back; I don't have anything bad to say about nobody. You look at the guy Silva. I never said nothing about the guy Anderson Silva; nothing bad about him. I never said nothing bad about Ronda Rousey. I barely even knew the dude Conor McGregor. I barely knew this guy. They said the guy wanna rip my face off the side of the MGM Grand. I've been doing business with the MGM Grand for 20 years, you know. 20 years! I've never known no other fighter or MMA person to do a $70 million gate. Once again, I'm not throwing no shots at anyone. I'm just saying. No shots at no MMA guys or boxing, but I've never known no one to do over $70 million at the gate.
BT: Speaking of Silva, Rousey, and McGregor, I don't know if you heard about this, but fans have been saying that they all fell victim to the Mayweather Curse. In other words, as soon as someone talks smack about you, they end up losing their next fight or something bad happens to them. Even Adrien [Broner] got hit with some legal trouble shortly after he made a video response to you. What's up with that? You got a witch on the TMT payroll dropping curses on everyone (laughing)?
FM: (Laughing) Everybody wanna be better than Mayweather. If that's meant to be, it's meant to be, you know. When I got into the fight game, I never said, "You know what? I want to be better than Ali. I want to be better than Sugar Ray Leonard. I want to be better than Mike Tyson." All I ever said is whatever God got coming my way, I'm going to accept it. I'm just going to go out there and be the best. I think that people worry about what other people think when they should be happy within themselves. You win some, you lose some. Everybody always worried about what everybody else thinks and what they're going to say. They're always worried about everyone else's opinion. You know who I care about? I care about what my children think about me. That's who I care about because my legacy lives on through my children.
