"We can't have bad blood with someone you don't know. I mean, anytime a guy is looking past you, he's talking about fighting Amir Khan in the summer in the UK....to have this type of fight, and facing an elite fighter such as Devon, to plan on your next fight, that lets us know that he's either that arrogant or he's looking past Devon. That's cool. That's fine. He'll find out, once he's in the ring with Devon, he's got himself in something he's never faced before. He'll find out February 23rd," stated world-class trainer Kevin Cunningham, who talked about the postponement of Devon Alexander's title defense against Kell Brook. Check it out!
DK: Kevin, what's going on?
KC: Everything is going great, you know, we were in super grind mode and then, I guess, Brook claims he got an ankle injury, so they pushed the fight back 4 weeks from the original date. So now we're fighting February 23rd in Detroit.
DK: How was training going for the fight before the postponement?
KC: Aw, man, we were right on schedule. Devon was looking sharp in sparring and was in unbelievable shape. We brought in strength and conditioning guru Jason Barbour, the CEO of Metabolic Meals. He's Devon's nutritionist and strength trainer.
DK: How has the delay affected training?
KC: Uh, actually, we've kind of taken our foot off the gas a little, but Devon has continued strength training through the holidays. He's been running and doing some light training, but then after the holidays, we'll get back to the full court press.
DK: There has been a lot of talk between both camps with Brook trying to make his name in America. Is there any bad blood between the two sides?
KC: We can't have bad blood with someone you don't know. He'll find out February 23rd.
DK: So this postponement was a bit of a blessing in disguise with the holidays?
KC: Like I said, it's cool because we brought a strength trainer on board, and this delay gives us a full 3 months to implement the program. With the holidays, we can lighten up and enjoy the holidays a little bit. So it worked out pretty good as far as we're concerned.
DK: Kevin, I'm sure we'll be talking more as the fight approaches, but do you have anything else you would like to say before we let you go?
KC: I mean, basically, you know, to touch on the subject, Kell Brook is looking to take Devon's title to go fight Amir Khan. That's not gonna happen. Once Devon takes care of Kell Book, we're looking at other opportunities ourselves, including the winner of the rumored fight between Mosley and Malignaggi. We'd love a title unification fight with the winner of that one, but first things first, we gotta take care of our mandatory, which is Kell Brook.
