"I don't ever underestimate my opponent. You never know what they're going to bring to the table. You could be as prepared as you think you can be, but when it comes to that day, you never know," stated featherweight Sandy Tsagouris as she talked about her career, her future plans and more. Check it out.
PC: How is everything going?
ST: Not bad. I'm just getting ready to head out to Rhode Island.
PC: How has training camp been going for your fight on June 21st?
ST: It's on schedule. Everything is going smoothly so far. I'm getting all of my cardio out of the way and trying to get in shape.
PC: For fans that have never seen you fight, what kind of style do you bring into the ring?
ST: My name is "Lil Tyson" so I do kind of fight like Tyson, but every fight is a little different. I bring a new favorite punch. The last fight, it was right hand, left hook. It really changes every fight. I find a punch and I really favor it in training and we work on that one so really, my style is like Tyson's peek- a- boo style, but it's really different every fight.
PC: That's a lot of pressure being called "Lil Tyson."
ST: I'm actually realizing that now. Everybody is now trying to figure out a little more about Tyson. They're looking into his background and if they don't know too much about boxing, they're like, "He's so tough and fierce." I'm like, "Oh boy!" That means I have to be like that every fight now. There is a little pressure there. I feel it more now.
PC: How much do you know about your next opponent?
ST: She's from Kenya. There is not that much footage on her. I know she's taller than me; she has an awkward jab and she's actually fought for 2 world titles and went the distance, but lost both times. There's not too much information on her, but I never underestimate my opponents.
PC: When you prepare for someone you don't have much footage on, is your mindset to just prepare yourself as well as you can?
ST: Yeah, definitely. I don't ever underestimate my opponent. You never know what they're going to bring to the table. You could be as prepared as you think you can be, but when it comes to that day, you never know.
PC: You're coming off of your first loss. How anxious are you to get back in there and erase that memory?
ST: Now that my emotions have settled down and I'm a little calmer about it, I'm anxious to get back in there and feel what it's going to be like to be in there after a loss.
PC: What are some of the things you are looking to accomplish in this fight?
ST: If the knockout comes, obviously I'm going to take that because everybody wants to see a knockout. A lot of my fans love to see me fight and go the rounds and they actually get disappointed when they see a knockout so I would like to get the rounds in. My fights are going to be longer from now on, no more 4-rounders, so for me to go the rounds means I'm in shape and it's mental for me so I would definitely like to go the rounds.
PC: This will be your second fight this year. After this fight, how many more times would you like to fight after June 21st?
ST: Hopefully at least 2 more times that we have dates for, but if anything else comes up, I would like to fight more than that.
PC: Who are some of the fighters that you enjoy watching?
ST: You know what? I don't really watch too much boxing unless it's live. I get nervous watching it unless I can study certain things and people. I don't really like watching it unless it's a big fight and my coach makes me watch. I watch De La Hoya, Floyd and Manfredo. I like watching Friday Night Fights undercards with some of the up-and-coming fighters, but usually I get really nervous watching it.
PC: Good luck in June. Is there anything you want to say in closing?
ST: I'd like to thank Ed Rosa for getting me this interview and my promoters here in Toronto; they are definitely a big help hereĀ
Ed Rosa again for getting me all of this exposure. Thank you for taking this time to interview me.
