J'LEON LOVE: "IN CAMP WITH FLOYD MAYWEATHER...YOU MAKE A MISTAKE AND HE MAKES YOU PAY"

By Percy Crawford | March 30, 2012
J'LEON LOVE:

"I'm getting one-on-one boxing from the greatest in the world, so it's a good look. It's a great opportunity, man. It's great looking up to all of these guys in this era that paved the way for us, so to be in camp with Floyd Mayweather is an unbelievable dream. So I'm living it and I'm a sponge, soaking up all I can...The work is incredible in the ring. You make a mistake and he makes you pay. But he's teaching me so much. He's telling me things to do and what to correct and things like that. It's unbelievable. Just to be in the ring and sharing the ring with the best fighter in the world is amazing. We had a couple of sparring sessions, but just from the couple of sparring sessions we've had so far, I've learned a million things," stated up-and-coming middleweight J'Leon Love, who talked about the opportunity he's had to help undefeated pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather prepares for his upcoming May 5th clash with WBA jr. middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Check it out!

PC: How are things out there in Vegas going for you?

JL: Ah man, Vegas is great, you know what I mean? I can't complain. Its beautiful weather, beautiful people, and a beautiful life; everything I dreamed about, so I'm definitely in the right place.

PC: Are you residing there now or are you just there for this camp with Floyd Mayweather?

JL: Nah, I'm now living here in Las Vegas. I've been staying here since December. Everything is pretty good since I been here. I'm getting good work and training; it's got it all.

PC: What's your background and your history in the sport? Tell the readers a little bit about yourself?

JL: Well, I'm J'Leon Love from Detroit, Michigan. I'm 24 years old and I'm on a journey to become the pound-for-pound middleweight champion of the world. I'm 10-0 right now with 6 knockouts and I'm getting ready to get back in there on April 20th in Biloxi, Mississippi on the Jermain Taylor undercard. I'm just on a journey to capture the eyes of all of the boxing fans and to show the world that boxing isn't going nowhere. It's only going up from here.

PC: Oh, okay. I will be at that card.

JL: Yeah man, no doubt. I love traveling and fighting all over the world. To go down south and get that treatment is definitely love. I got a lot of family in the south and they bring that great southern hospitality.

PC: How active are you looking to be this year?

JL: Oh yeah! There is a lot of good things going on for 2012 with my career. I want to stay busy, stay active, and make a big impact this year, and then in 2013, we can really step on the scene and show the world who we are.

PC: Being that you are from Michigan, I'm sure Floyd Mayweather is someone you looked up to. Now you are in camp with him. What is it like?

JL: Ah man, definitely. He's the best fighter in the world and I'm getting one-on-one boxing from the greatest in the world, so it's a good look. It's a great opportunity, man. It's great looking up to all of these guys in this era that paved the way for us, so to be in camp with Floyd Mayweather is an unbelievable dream. So I'm living it and I'm a sponge, soaking up all I can.

PC: What is the work like with Floyd?

JL: The work is incredible in the ring. You make a mistake and he makes you pay. But he's teaching me so much. He's telling me things to do and what to correct and things like that. It's unbelievable. Just to be in the ring and sharing the ring with the best fighter in the world is amazing. We had a couple of sparring sessions, but just from the couple of sparring sessions we've had so far, I've learned a million things. We got about 7 weeks of camp left and I think I will be close to a genius by the time I get out of camp with Floyd.

PC: Best of luck to you in your fight and while you're in camp with Floyd. Is there anything you want to say in closing?

JL: I appreciate the interview, man. Get at me when you see me in Biloxi.
