According to reports, despite previously stating that he will be facing Austin Trout on the blockbuster May 4 Mayweather vs. Guerrero Pay-Per-View event, it appears Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has had a change of heart and would rather defend his title on a Showtime Championship Boxing card. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has confirmed that the bout is a done deal for April 20, and will most likely take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Evidently, Alvarez was not happy about the fact that undefeated pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather would not give him a signed guarantee that he would fight him in September. Without that guarantee, Alvarez did not want to fight on the undercard of another Mayweather event. So instead, he will now be fighting 2 weeks prior on a card that will still no doubt heavily promote the May 4 card.
