"My next fight is probably going to be my last fight at 140 and then I'll go up to 147," stated unified jr. welterweight champion Danny Garcia, who revealed that he plans on having just one more fight at 140-pounds before moving up in weight to test the waters in the talent-rich welterweight division. Garcia was in attendance at the DC Armory in Washington D.C. to support fellow Philly-native and future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins as he unified the WBA & IBF light heavyweight titles with a dominating performance against former champion Beibut Shumenov.
"He might be the next king at 140," Garcia explained, referring to former welterweight champion Adrien Broner, who was also in attendance as he continues preprations for his debut at 140-pounds on the May 3 undercard of Mayweather vs. Maidana. While Broner looks to get his career back on track by moving down in weight, Garcia hopes to take his career to the next level by moving up in weight and taking on some of the biggest names in the sport, like undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather. "I got one more and 147, here I come, so y'all better watch out. I got my eyes open," Garcia added.
