FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR.: "YOU AIN'T SEEN THE BEST OF MICKEY BEY YET"

FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR.:

"Well, I'ma be honest, man, you ain't seen the best of Mickey Bey yet. You haven't seen the best of Mickey Bey," stated world-class trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., who looked back on the performance of IBF lightweight champion Mickey Bey in his title-winning victory over former champion Miguel Vazquez. According to Mayweather Sr., although that fight was not the most entertaining to watch, the best has yet to come from Bey, who he believes has turned a corner since his lone defeat.

"When you seen Mickey Bey fight the one time when Mickey Bey ended up getting stopped, he got stopped only because...it wasn't because of himself. Mickey Bey got excited, man. I said, 'Look man, chill, man, chill.' He wasn't listening to the stuff that I was telling him in the corner. 'Chill, Mickey! Chill, Mickey!' But he came out and he was hype, man. He wouldn't listen to his coach. So there it is, man," Mayweather explained during a recent conversation with FightHype.com. "If you don't listen to your coach, you see what happens. You got to listen. It's very important to listen. If you don't listen, you ain't gonna get no title. It's as simple as that. Now so far, Mickey listened the last time, even though the fight wasn't a good fight."

Mayweather Sr. went on to give his take on the actual fight and why he believes Bey was clearly the winner. "The guy was running. The guy was holding. The guy did that stuff all night, but you know what? Even though neither one of them got hit that much, Mickey was throwing more punches and Mickey was more aggressive, and Mickey came forward all the time, so that's what that fight right there was all about when Mickey won it," Mayweather Sr. added. "The guy never put up a good brawl where you get in there and mix it up good. He don't do that. Either he's going to tie you up good or he's running, so that's what that was with that fight, but I don't care what it is right now. Mickey got the title now and now you're going to see a bigger and much better fighter out of Mickey."
