EMMANUEL TAYLOR: "DECEMBER OR JANUARY....I WILL BE BACK ON THE BIG STAGE SOON"

By Percy Crawford | October 10, 2014
EMMANUEL TAYLOR:

"I could have kept the pressure on him a little bit more. I let him off the hook a couple of times, but overall, I think it was a good fight for me...Hopefully some time in December. I hope to be back some time in December. That's what my manager is saying. that December or January, I will definitely be back... I will be back on the big stage soon enough so stay tuned," stated jr. welterweight contender Emmanuel Taylor, who looked back on his performance against Adrien Broner, talked about his future plans, and more. Check it out!

PC: Now that you have had time to reflect on your fight with Adrien Broner, what did you think of your performance?

ET: I give myself a B+. I think I did good to be in his hometown. I thought I did what I was supposed to do. I could have kept the pressure on him a little bit more. I let him off the hook a couple of times, but overall, I think it was a good fight for me.

PC: You told me you would apply pressure and I thought you did a good job of that and you never gassed out.

ET: Yeah, I knew what I was capable of doing in the ring. I knew I was in shape to go the distance. I wasn't gonna let anything bother me. I knew what I had to do.

PC: What was fight week like out there in Cincinnati and dealing with Broner and the whole nine?

ET: It was real intense. It was my first big fight like that; my first media workout and press conferences. It was all real good for me. I felt comfortable and I could get used to that lifestyle.

PC: It seemed like you handled it well and that the moment wasn't too big for you, even dealing with Broner and all that he brings to the table.

ET: Yeah, I just kept my composure and I just had to do what I had to do.

PC: It seemed like after the fight, Adrien showed you a lot of respect. Did you feel like after the effort you gave, you guys would have mutual respect or did you really not know what to expect afterward?

ET: Yeah! Everybody don't know, but I knew him since the amateur days when we were growing up. I knew after the fight he was going to give me respect because we both came from the bottom. At the end of the day, I knew he would respect me after the fight, even though he don't do that with other fighters, so I think I really put up a good fight for him.

PC: Sometimes you grow more and get a bigger fan base off of a loss as opposed to a win and I think that's the case with you. People wanna see you fight again.

ET: Yeah, it's a real blessing. Everybody was downing me before the fight, thinking I was gonna get stopped or he was gonna knock me out real bad and all this other stuff. I gained a lot of fans after that fight. A lot of people wanna see me again. My whole life changed after this fight, to be honest. I appreciate Broner giving me the opportunity to fight him.

PC: What's next for you? Anyone in particular you would like to face?

ET: Whatever my management team comes up with next. For the time being, I'm just gonna enjoy my family until something else pops up.

PC: Can we expect to see you again this year or are you looking to come back next year?

ET: Hopefully some time in December. I hope to be back some time in December. That's what my manager is saying. that December or January, I will definitely be back.

PC: Is it tough for you to prepare for a fight during the holidays?

ET: I mean, at the end of the day, I gotta do what I gotta do to support my family and be where I wanna be in the ranks. It doesn't bother me. All I know is how to do what I gotta do.

PC: Broner brought a little bit of talk out of you because you don't talk a whole lot. Was that just the accumulation of his trash talk that opened you up a little?

ET: Yeah, basically. I'm not gonna let nobody talk about me without defending myself and give it back to him. I'm not gonna let anyone disrespect me and say what they want.

PC: Times are different where they say a closed mouth don't get fed...at least don't get fed often. Is it tough to not be a vocal guy and still make noise so to speak?

ET: It all depends on the fighter. At the end of the day, I'm gonna be who I am. I'm a quiet person, but if someone like Broner brings it out of me, then that's how it's gonna be.

PC: Thanks for the time. I look forward to seeing you back in there. Is there anything else you want to say before I let you go?

ET: Just look out for me, Emmanuel "Transformer" Taylor, because I will be back on the big stage soon enough so stay tuned!
