I've been always following Andre's career from then and that's how, in a way, I got hooked up with Virgil Hunter because I used to always look at Andre's fighting style and how defensive he was, but when he was in the amateurs, he had a very similar style to mine where he was very offensive...my defense is not the best, so I needed to get with a trainer who can teach me the defensive side," stated former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan, who explained how meeting Andre Ward at the 2004 Olympics influenced his decision to train with Virgil Hunter.
