"I want to just perfect a stance. You know, I'm good with both hands. I'm natural at both sides. When I spar, you hear it all the time, 'Man, you look better from your right hand than you do from your left.' I don't feel that way, but they do say it. It's just the fact that people have a lot trouble fighting southpaws, and then, I mean, they're going to have trouble fighting me regardless, so Andre Dirrell in a southpaw stance, I feel like it's just a deadly combination," stated super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell who talked about his ability to switch stance between orthodox and southpaw. It's a unique skill that allows him to confuse his opponents during the course of a fight.
"What I want to do is perfect my craft from over there. And like I said, condition my side right over there. That way, if I'm beating the hell out of an opponent for 9 or 10 rounds straight as southpaw, there's no way I should be switching up to cause more danger to myself. I mean, I'ma stick to it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, so I wanna just perfect my game on my southpaw stance so I can stay shining on either side," Dirrell explained during a recent conversation with FightHype.com. "A lot of fighters think it's very impressive for a fighter to be able to switch up, especially in a 12-round fight, man. With that being said, I feel like there's a lot of fighters that do it for that reason alone, man. You know, it can be very dangerous if you don't know what you're doing and you're not in the gym working on that."
Dirrell added, "It's dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, man. You know, I've been doing this my whole life."
