Top jr. middleweight contender Jermell Charlo kept his undefeated record intact after scoring a unanimous decision victory over fellow jr. middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan. It was back and forth early in the fight. Charlo worked behind his jab to land quick right hands while Martirosyan focused on the body. Midway through the bout, both fighters were landing their share of one-twos, but it was Charlo who was starting to land more of them.
A headbutt in the 8th round opened up a cut over the left eye of Martirosyan. After a break in the action for a consultation with the ringside doctor, the fight continued and Martirosyan came out fired up, with the fight still seemingly up for grabs. In the end, however, the judges scored the bout 97-93, 96-94, and 96-94, all in favor of Jermell Charlo.
