"For the guys that made the team, I would just tell them that that's only half the battle. They have to stay focused and keep their foot on the gas pedal. And for the guys that didn't make it, I would just tell them don't give up. Everything happens for a reason. They just have to stay in the gym and stay focused and they will get their break in the pros or if they want to wait for the next one. They just gotta stay dedicated to their craft," stated jr. middleweight contender and former Olympian Terrell Gausha, who shared some advice for the 9 athletes that qualified for the U.S. Olympic boxing team and gave some words of encouragement to those that didn't make it. Although the experience can be different for each athlete that participates, the road to Olympic glory is still just as tough for everyone.
"For me, when I was aiming for the Olympics, it was different. I didn't go to the Trials and all that. I went to the last one. If I lost, it was over. I only had one shot to win and get in. I just kept telling myself to take it one fight at a time. I had some tough fights along the way, close ones, but I always bit down and got it done because I always felt like I didn't have no other options but to make it work," Gausha explained during a recent conversation with FightHype.com. "As far as my toughest fights in the amateurs, me and Jesse Hart had some good ones. Caleb Plant and I had some good ones as well. Those are the ones that I remember from the Olympic box-offs. I had some good fights with those guys."
