Earlier today, former heavyweight champion David Haye made quick work of Arnold Gjergjaj, stopping him in the 2nd round in front of his hometown fans at the O2 Arena in London, England. Just 30 seconds into the bout, a thunderous right hand landed from Haye that dropped Gjergjaj hard. Gjergjaj was able to beat the count and survive the remainder of the round, even after oddly dropping to his knees just right at the bell. No knockdown was counter, however, and he was able to continue.
It didn't take long for Haye to finish the job, however, dropping Gjergjaj once again with a jab 30 seconds into the 2nd round. Gjergjaj was down again shortly after that. Going in for the kill, Haye unleashed a flurry of punches against the ropes, forcing Gjergjaj to slump to the floor in the corner. Although he got up to answer the count, referee Terry O'COnnor waved it off at 1 minute and 32 seconds into the round.
Also on the card, Shannon Briggs easily stopped Emilio Ezequiel Zarate with a left hand to the body in the first round. Zarate was wobbled by the very first punch of the fight and was dropped moments later by the body shot. Briggs hopes this sets up his desired showdown with David Haye later in the year.
