ANGEL HEREDIA CONFIRMS MIGUEL COTTO VS. JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ IS IN THE WORKS:

"He definitely wants Cotto. He doesn't want anybody else and I think Cotto wants him too, so there's a very good chance the fight will go on. I think it's already in the works. I know it's in the works, but don't know yet on the issue on negotiations or how far they are into it, but I think they're going pretty good. I think it will happen," stated world-class Strength & Conditioning Coach Angel Heredia, who gave us an update on the future plans of multi-division former world champion Juan Manuel Marquez and confirmed that a potential clash with fellow multi-division former world champion Miguel Cotto is in the workd. Check it out!

LS: Angel, as far as Juan Manuel Marquez, do you have any update? I know he said he wants to come back and wants to take a tune up before a big fight. Have you heard anything or have any updates about Juan at the moment?

AH: Well, I talked to Juan when he was in Las Vegas for the Canelo-Khan fight. I briefly talked to him. He said he's doing some training. He told me he wanted me to go train this month right now because he wanted to test himself and the knee and make sure if he's capable of taking the fight directly or if he was going to have to take a tune up fight and then go ahead with Cotto. I think he definitely wants [that] fight. He definitely wants Cotto. He doesn't want anybody else and I think Cotto wants him too, so there's a very good chance the fight will go on. I think it's already in the works. I know it's in the works, but don't know yet on the issue on negotiations or how far they are into it, but I think they're going pretty good. I think it will happen and I think people want to see it happen. It's a good fight. Everybody will definitely buy pay-per-view for that.

LS: Is he ready to move up if he had to for Cotto? Even if they met somewhere in the middle, would you feel comfortable having Juan move up in weight this late in his career?

AH: Normally, when we had the Pacquiao fights and most of the fight that I worked with him, we always kept him at a certain weight where he could move around and be comfortable. Not too heavy. On day five, we'd have him at 148, 147 and 149 tops. No more than the 8 pounds rule. So I know Cotto, if you look at his frame and Marquez's frame, they're pretty similar; the same size except maybe Cotto has a tendency of getting a little heavier. But I think they will do just like I was talking to Freddie [Roach] when I was in camp with Jean [Pascal]. He said Cotto could make the weight easily at 147 and maybe perhaps arrange a 153-pound rehydration clause, but I think Marquez should have no problem with that. Working properly and doing the right things and training, the speed will be there. Even if it's at 152 the most, it will be like Amir Khan. Amir Khan can only get so heavy. Anything else would be incredibly too heavy to get there and with Marquez, it's the same thing. Maybe 147 and then he can reach to 150 the most. I will never allow him to go more than 150. That's just a rule. The heavier you are in the ring, the more oxygen you waste and obviously all those factors work against you. I want to make sure my guy is moveable and make sure he keeps his speed. I mean, a guy like Cotto is a guy that's going to be moving around. If you look at him, it's almost the same style as [Marquez]; counter punchers. Cotto comes to fight, Marquez comes to fight, so it will be good.
