JEFF MAYWEATHER BREAKS DOWN GOLOVKIN VS. BROOK; SAYS GOLOVKIN WOULD HAVE TO FIGHT FLOYD AT 147

"I think it's a situation where Kell Brook is looking for a payday and Golovkin needs a payday and they said, 'Okay, let's do it!'," stated world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather, who shared his thoughts on the intriguing showdown between undefeated middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and undefeated welterweight champion Kell Brook.

JEFF MAYWEATHER ON GOLOVKIN VS. BROOK

But at the end of the day, Golovkin says that he wants a challenge, but Andre Ward was there. If you want it, you take it. You didn't take that. You're willing to go the other way and lose weight to try and fight Floyd, but you wouldn't go the other way to fight Andre Ward. He could have gained 6 to 8 pounds and fought Andre Ward because, realistically, you're not going to fight Floyd at 54; you're going to fight Floyd at 47. So you're willing to drop 13 pounds rather than go up 8 pounds and fight Andre Ward? You're putting yourself in a position to be scrutinized. Don't get me wrong, he's a great fighter. His record speaks for itself, but at the same time, just like everybody scrutinized Floyd about Manny Pacquiao and other fighters, you're under the same scrutiny now. So really, it's up to you to make people believe in you. At least fight someone in your weight class, like a Danny Jacobs. People don't even consider these guys he's fighting to have a chance. He hasn't fought one fighter that's realistically had a chance against him. And in some cases, it's guys that's moving up to 160.

To be honest, I think Kell Brook is going to do a little better than everybody thinks because even though Kell Brook is a welterweight, I remember when he came out here to Vegas and I met him and I'm standing next to this guy, he had to be at least about 160-something pounds. He has the frame to carry that weight. And I'm also thinking realistically Kell Brook can't make welterweight anymore. And being that he can't make welterweight, he wants to take a fight that's going to make him a whole lot of money as opposed to trying to fight someone at 54. I mean, he could have tried to fight Canelo at 54, but maybe this is because he's just grown into the size of his body, because I mean, this guy is big. He's really huge. And this is a win-win for him. It's a no-lose situation for him. He wins, he shocks the world; he don't win, he was supposed to lose. He's making his biggest payday and his title is not at stake. He put himself in a position to get a payday.

I'll be honest, I don't think Chris Eubank is going to ever be able to beat Golovkin and I don't know if that had anything to do with him or his father overpricing himself or not. Maybe if he waits for Golovkin to get old he can; I'm just being honest. He's young and talented, but I think a lot of publicity is being pushed on him because of his last name. Let's not forget he got his ass whooped a little while ago by a nobody. So all of a sudden, you win a few fights and now you're ready for the world? At the end of the day, he's still the same guy. So to me, it would have been great to see Golovkin fight him because he is a middleweight, but that's not to say it would have been any more competitive than this fight with Brook. Eubank is going to be the next fight anyway. Golovkin just found a market. His market is in the UK! He about to go over there and get paid back to back. I think Kell Brook is going to do decent, but I think he will get stopped late. And I think the same for Eubank if they fight; I think the same thing will happen to him.
