TERRELL GAUSHA EAGER TO TAKE CAREER TO THE NEXT LEVEL:

"I'm trying to get a big one. I'm waiting to hear the news now. I'm trying to get a big fight to end the year and get that title at the beginning of next year. I'm ready...I like the competition. You already know, I'm ready to mix it up with all of these dudes. All of them names you mentioned, if Al called me tomorrow and said I was fighting any one of them, I'm ready. That's why I sacrificed and got down to this division because I wanted to show people that I'm the best," stated jr. middleweight contender Terrell Gausha, who talked about his latest win, his future plans, and more. Check it out!

PC: Congratulations on your win over Steve Martinez on Spike TV. Were you surprised it was a majority decision?

TG: It depends on what the judges are looking for, but I thought I won it unanimously. It was a tough, great fight though. Styles make fights and we put on a great show.

PC: Was that what you were expecting from Martinez, that tough, grueling type of fight, or had he shown you something different on tape?

TG: I expected a tough fight. I knew dude was a come-forward pressure fighter and he liked to throw a lot of body shots. I was ready for the task. There were certain rounds I pulled away from him when I stayed to box and show my skills. But there were other times where I stayed in there and mixed it up with him, you know.

PC: For sure. You have consistently fought tough guys. Even though you're only 19 fights into your career, you have to like your chances against anyone in the division due to the strong opposition you have faced?

TG: Oh yeah, for sure. That's what I look for. A lot of fighters, they want to gradually work their way up, but me, I wanted to fight the tough competition so I can set myself up for a title shot. If I beat these guys, I know I can keep going. It's like the fight that I just had; I'm a better fighter from that and I will just keep going, learning something each time. I want to be a world champion. I have to learn something from each fight.

PC: You have also gone 10 rounds a couple of times and been scheduled to go 10 a lot. I'm sure that helps as well.

TG: That's definitely a push because championship fights are 12 rounds, so I'm right there. I was always trying to get them rounds up from the beginning. I didn't want to do too many 4's. I was always trying to get 6 and 8 and 10 real quick. And plus I work hard in the gym. I spar 10 and 12 rounds, so I know I'm ready for it.

PC: What is the rest of the year looking like for you?

TG: I'm trying to get a big one. I'm waiting to hear the news now. I'm trying to get a big fight to end the year and get that title at the beginning of next year. I'm ready!

PC: When you look at the 154-pound division, not only is there a lot of talent, but it's a lot of young talent; you, Julian Williams, Charlo Brothers and Tony Harris. What do you think of the talent pool in the division?

TG: I like it. I like the competition. You already know, I'm ready to mix it up with all of these dudes. All of them names you mentioned, if Al called me tomorrow and said I was fighting any one of them, I'm ready. That's why I sacrificed and got down to this division because I wanted to show people that I'm the best.

PC: We spoke when you were first moving down from middleweight to junior middleweight. How has that cut been for you?

TG: It's definitely not easy, I'm not going to lie, but at the same time, it makes me work hard. I'm getting more comfortable each time around, but right now, I feel like this is where I'm at and I'm feeling stronger and getting better in this division. I can hit the weight and feel strong.

PC: What do you take away from your first 19 fights?

TG: To be honest, I just feel blessed. I'm blessed just to be able to have 19 fights and to be able to move the way I'm moving. A lot of fighters aren't in a situation where they have a good management team and have people move them. I'm already 19 fights in. That says a lot about my team and my discipline. I didn't take any breaks. I'm proud of myself and I'm happy with my team and the fact that they move me the way they do.

PC: And the level of exposure you have received is a major plus.

TG: It's everything that I've been working for. I love it to be honest, man. Every time I get an opportunity to get under them bright lights, I embrace that. So once again, I thank my team for getting me on TV and it feels good to know that everybody back home watching and all of my fans watching; that's good. A lot of fighters don't get the opportunity to fight on national television, so I'm blessed with that. It makes me work hard and keeps me highly motivated.

PC: Your Olympic teammates, Rau'Shee Warren has grabbed a world title, Errol Spence Jr. will be fighting for a world title soon, and Jo Jo Diaz as well, and Dominic Breazeale challenged for a world title. I'm sure that is not only encouraging, but a position you plan to be in soon as well.

TG: Oh yeah, for sure. Watching them dudes that I came up on the Olympics with win those titles, and even Robert Easter winning a world title, that just pushes me and motivates me. So the beginning of 2017, I already know I will be fighting for a world title. It ain't even no if, ands, or buts about it because I'm going to keep pressure on these boys.

PC: What was your take away from this year's Olympic team?

TG: I felt like they did a hell of a job out there. I felt like the whole team did well, even the ones that came up short, because you know how the judging is out there. Claressa Shields is one of the best boxers, period. I'm not talking about just female boxers; she's one of the best amateur fighters from the US, period. I didn't know how good Shakur Stevenson was because I had never really watched him fight until the Olympics. That young kid got a lot of talent. One of my guys from Cleveland actually made the team. He was the youngest, Charles Conwell. I was proud of him as well, even though he fell short. He accomplished something good by just getting there. The whole team did well and I was proud of them.

PC: Cleveland Cavaliers and UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic are champions and I'm sure you're going to do your best to be in that number next year. I wish you the best and congrats on the win again.

TG: Yeah! I appreciate you for hitting me up. I'm good my man.
