JEFF MAYWEATHER OPENS UP ABOUT ROGER MAYWEATHER'S HEATLH ISSUES:

"That won't change. It won't get better; it will only get worse with time. We just have to brace ourselves and be here for him as much as possible... The gym is his sanctuary. As long as he's in the gym, he's fine. That's the one place where he's home. It's like being at home for him," stated world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather, who opened up about the health issues that his brother, Roger Mayweather, has been dealing with it. Check it out!

PC: This was a little while back, but you and several other members of the family posted that Roger was missing. Thankfully he was found. We spoke awhile back and you expressed how hard it was to see him in this state because he's just not himself. Have things improved or is this just the process?

JM: It's a situation where I don't think that it's going to get better. I think it will get worse before it gets better, like any type of deficiency or disease, as I guess dementia would be considered a disease. That won't change. It won't get better; it will only get worse with time. We just have to brace ourselves and be here for him as much as possible.

PC: Not only does he have dementia, but I know he is a diabetic as well. Is it just the combination of the two that has him in the state that he's in now?

JM: I think it's a combination. At one point in time, I know Roger wasn't really taking his medicine like he was supposed to. Pretty much like most athletes, we feel like we're invincible and a lot of times we don't follow protocol like we should. I think that in itself kind of enhanced the situation as well. Now it's compiled with dementia, so now you're dealing with two major issues.

PC: Does he still frequent the gym? Are you guys trying to cut him back from being there so much so that he can't wander off or are you guys trying to let him live as normal of a life as possible?

JM: Oh no, we are trying to let him live a normal life. The gym is his sanctuary. As long as he's in the gym, he's fine. That's the one place where he's home. It's like being at home for him. He can still train fighters; I mean, he can train fighters with his eyes closed (laughing). He's been doing it forever. Roger has a serious, serious passion for training kids. And being that that's the case, he comes in and if there is a kid in the gym that wants to train, and a lot of times maybe a kid that don't even want to train, Roger will see them and he will be like, "Come over here." He has an extreme passion for working with kids and that's what he does now. That's his reason to come to the gym. He don't have fighters anymore. Every once and awhile, he may hold the pads for someone, but for the most part, he doesn't train fighters. When the kids come in, he's just as excited as they are about him training them.

PC: You are really close to Roger and you even told me once that if it wasn't for Roger, you would have never became a boxer, so I'm not sure people really understand the closeness you have with him.

JM: Roger was that brother that I always wanted to be like. Growing up, Roger was very, very advanced for his age. By the time Roger was 17 or 18 years old, Roger was already promoting fights (laughing). Not like Don King of course, but for a kid that was 17 years old, he would actually put together shows in the gym. He would have two guys that fought in the Golden Gloves and they had a rivalry and if they were in the same weight class, he would make them the main event. Then he would have all of the younger kids do their fight leading up to the main event. And not only that, he would even have entertainment. My sisters have always been into making clothes and things like that, so they would do like a little modeling and fashion show and he would have people performing and dancing. So it's crazy to think how far his mind had to be advanced to be doing that at that age. It was unheard of to me. When I look back on it, I realize how young he was.

Another thing Roger did at a young age, Roger was maybe 118, maybe 112 pounds, and Roger has always been able to punch, always, and he knew it. That's one thing that he had tremendous confidence in himself with. So one time, him and one of the trainers got into an argument. So Roger said, "Get in the ring." Roger was a young kid and this guy is 205 pounds, I would say in his early thirties, got in the ring with Roger, Roger knocked him ice cold. I think he was a 112-118 pounder and this guy weighed about 205. I got a whole lot of crazy stories in which I was involved with Roger in things like that. I was close to him. Everywhere he went, I went. That's actually how I learned how to swim. We went to this park, it's called Garfield Park. They used to have an open swimming pool, but they had high fences that you used to have to climb over to get in. But they didn't have no security or anything. So one night, I'm following Roger; I don't even know how to swim and we go to get in the pool, he gets on the high dive, I follow him, I get on the high dive. I had never gone swimming before in my life and it was crazy because Roger is doing back flips. He knows what he's doing, I don't and I just jumped off the high dive. I could have died. I came up and then I just started swinging my arms and I was moving. Eventually I learned how to swim because it was survival of the fittest. I didn't know what I was doing. I was just following my brother and that's where it went.
