SCOTT ALEXANDER: "I GOTTA KICK THE BACK DOOR IN...I'M A MIDDLEWEIGHT TRAPPED IN A HEAVYWEIGHT BODY"

By Percy Crawford | September 28, 2016
SCOTT ALEXANDER:

"To fight an undefeated guy is really not a lot of pressure to me. I don't worry about a lot because everybody I fight has more experience than me. I'd rather take the tough route and learn on the job instead of being spoon fed, so when I get there, I know that I earned it and I don't have anything to worry about. I've been fighting my way up to the top. I didn't take any side roads or backroads. I gotta kick the back door in and that's what I'm ready to do," stated fast-rising heavyweight Scott Alexander, who talked about his latest win, his next fight, and much more. Check it out!

PC: You're coming off of a big win in late August and getting right back in there in late October. How do you feel?

SA: I feel good, man. I feel like I don't have to start from scratch to get in shape. We are just building on everything that we worked on last camp.

PC: How do you feel about your performance in August? Do you feel you were able to do everything you prepared to do?

SA: I feel like, as far as shape-wise, I was in shape. I feel I got better in that fight from my last fight and that's always good to build off of. I wasn't tired at all. I feel like once I turned on the gas, there was no turning back. I wish I would have turned on the gas sooner. But I feel I got better in my last fight.

PC: You're still young in the game. What are some of the things you are learning about yourself as a fighter?

SA: I gotta learn when to step on the gas. I feel right now, I have hand speed, so I'm pretty much faster than most, if not all of the fighters in the division. I gotta know when I got a man hurt; that way I can put some punches together and get guys out of there. That's one thing I need to work on, realizing when a man is ready to go. I have to make my hand speed work and be my advantage; putting 3's, 4's, and 5's together. A lot of heavyweights can't do that; I'm one of the ones who can. I feel like I need to do that a lot a little more and just countering. Learning how to counter certain situations. That's experiences that I didn't get as an amateur. I need to be able to learn that on the job. I plan on using that in the fight I have coming up.

PC: You're out there working with Henry Ramirez. What's the work like out there in California for you right now?

SA: Henry is just one cool dude, man. He doesn't train me the way he does Chris [Arreola]. He's always trained me as more of a boxer. It's great to find a trainer that works on peoples' strengths and not train everybody the same. With that being said, I still learned a lot from Chris, watching him train Chris and the things he tells Chris. But me and Henry clicked, man. He's always pushing me and he's got me training with that Mexican intensity. We are just a good fit and I get the best of both worlds down here.

PC: You're putting a lot on the line October 21st fighting an undefeated guy, 14-0. You have to make up for lost times so you have to face these kinds of guys.

SA: For me, since I didn't have an amateur career, I feel like everybody I fight is a step up. To fight an undefeated guy is really not a lot of pressure to me. I gotta kick the back door in and that's what I'm ready to do.

PC: There is a lot of interest in the heavyweight division right now. I'm sure you're also ready to be in the middle of the pack of everything going on in the division.

SA: For me, I don't worry about it. I leave it up to Henry and my promoter. I'm willing to fight whoever they wanna throw me in there with. As long as I keep getting better with each fight, in 2 to 3 years, I should be ready for everybody.

PC: You obviously feel you bring fast hands to the table. Is that your best asset in your opinion?

SA: I'm a middleweight trapped in a heavyweight body. That's the way I see myself; fast hands, good eyes, and good footwork. I rip off 3's, 4's, and 5's like a middleweight. People look at me and it's like, "Oh my God. A heavyweight fights like this." I'm more about boxing and the sweet science and not just going in there and exchanging blows. I'm more of a boxer-puncher; a counter puncher that can bring it to you.

PC: What are you looking to showcase on the 21st of October?

SA: Even though I don't have any experience as an amateur, a fight is a fight and I know I can fight. I want to let people know that, despite what I've been through in the past, Scott Alexander is one that you will be talking about in the future.

PC: I wish you the best of luck in October and we will be keeping eyes on you.

SA: I appreciate the interview my man.
