JEFF MAYWEATHER SAYS CONOR MCGREGOR WAS NEVER GOING TO BE A PART OF FLOYD'S LEGACY; EXPLAINS WHY

"I didn't think it would ever happen for more than one reason...You don't want to go out with that being the closing of his legacy, against a guy that was at least 95% overmatched," stated world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather, who shared his thoughts on his nephew, retired undefeated former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, bringing an end to talk of a potential clash with UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. Check out what else he had to say!

JEFF MAYWEATHER ON FLOYD MAYWEATHER KILLING TALK OF A CONOR MCGREGOR FIGHT:

I think it was a fight that I didn't think it would ever happen for more than one reason. One is because, don't get me wrong, Floyd is proud of his legacy. He's hated by everyone, but he's a proud man. He's proud of the legacy he has compiled. Did he want to whoop Conor McGregor's ass for talking shit? of course he did, but at the same time, he's still a smart businessman and that's why he played along with it the whole time. It was good for business, but he put it out there just to see how fans would react. Of course you had the MMA people loving it because they figure it's a great opportunity for their guy, but the real boxing people never bit on that shit. They never thought it would happen because the fact is they know. Here you have a guy that ain't had a fight, nothing but an amateur boxing fight, and that probably was 10 to 15 years ago, and he's trying to take on the best fighter in the world, the most accomplished fighter on the planet. So I mean, you couldn't sell it to the boxing people. They wouldn't buy it. No matter what people said, no matter what Dana White tried to build out of it.

The whole situation's where Floyd put feelers out there just to see how many people would bite. He's not dumb. He is a smart businessman. He knows that the boxing fans wasn't going to buy it, and at this stage of Floyd's career, he's at the end of his career. You don't want to go out with that being the closing of his legacy, against a guy that was at least 95% overmatched. That wouldn't have been a good look because now you put yourself in position to not only fight a 50th fight, but to fight a 51st fight as well. And you would have to do that because a fight with McGregor wouldn't even count. The only thing that would count about it is that you made money. But your legacy as a fighter has to be against a real fighter, a legitimate guy out there that boxes for a living. At the end of the day, I think Floyd just avoided that situation to a point where it wasn't worth it in terms of adding to his legacy. The money would have been great, but at this stage, I don't think Floyd...he shouldn't need money (laughing). You gotta always think about your legacy and beating Conor McGregor, so what! The only one that benefits from that is Conor McGregor. Just him showing up, he benefits because he gets paid and he gets paid a sum of money he will never ever see in the UFC!
