DEMOND NICHOLSON FIRES BACK AT JESSE HART: "HE DON'T KNOW MY POWER...I PLAN TO EMBARRASS JESSE IN HIS HOMETOWN"

DEMOND NICHOLSON FIRES BACK AT JESSE HART:

“I look at this fight as a must KO. I have to get a TKO or KO. I must stop him. That’s how I’m approaching this fight and that’s how I’m approaching each day in the gym mentally and physically...he don’t know my power. He knows nothing about me...Once I stop Jesse, a world title shot is going to be knocking on the door...I plan to embarrass Jesse in his hometown,” stated super middleweight contender Demond Nicholson, who talked about his upcoming April 28 clash with Jesse Hart. Check it out!

PC: You are entering Jesse Hart’s backyard on April 28th. How do you feel?

DN: First of all, man, this is a blessing. I would just like to thank God for this tremendous blessing. This is what I have been waiting for since I talked to you about a year ago; trying to get set up for a world title. Man, I feel great. Going into his backyard, that’s just even more motivation in my training. I gotta go hard in this fight. I look at this fight as a must KO. I have to get a TKO or KO. I must stop him. That’s how I’m approaching this fight and that’s how I’m approaching each day in the gym mentally and physically.

PC: You told me in that interview that you will be stronger at 168. Jesse told me that 160 is your best weight and you are out of your league at super middleweight. I guess it’s just a matter of getting in there and showing him you belong at 168.

DN: My question is, how in the hell would he know (laughing)? He don’t even know me. He’s never been in the ring with me. We saw each other in the amateurs for quite some time. He has a relationship with my dad and stuff like that, but he don’t know my power. He knows nothing about me.

PC: You hit me up to try and get a fight with Caleb Plant and the very next day, they announced the Medina fight. You wanted to get someone else in the ring and they got an opponent, so, like you said, you have really been waiting on an opportunity like this. I’m sure the goal is to make the best of it.

DN: Exactly! It’s a moment that I can’t let get past me, man. Once I stop Jesse, a world title shot is going to be knocking on the door. After that fight, either we fight for a title or we pluck another duck. The ball is in our hands after this fight.

PC: When you were brought the name Jesse Hart, when you were told the venue was in Philadelphia, was this still a no-brainer for you?

DN: It was a no-brainer. Everything was a no-brainer. We could fight at Virginia Beach; at the ocean or the beach, I don’t care. It doesn’t matter where it’s at. Truth be told, Philly is only an hour and a half away from me and I have a large family in Philly, so it’s like being at home. My family will come out because, like I said, I got a huge family in Philly.

PC: He said he didn’t feel like you took risks and he definitely doesn’t feel you will take any at this weight class. The thing about fighting is, at the end of the day, we get to see you guys fight.

DN: This is only my second fight at 168. Like I said, he knows nothing about me. I fought in August at 168; my fight after I fought Steve Rolls. My first fight at 168 was against a dude that nobody really stopped and I made him quit in the second round.

PC: He feels like your draw against Aleem was your best performance, so I think that’s why he’s saying middleweight is your best weight.

DN: Man, my job is to go in there and stop Jesse. To be honest, I don’t know why he keeps talking about me. This is boxing. This is not reality TV. It’s cool, we can talk about Jesse, but I have nothing to speak on. I gotta stop him and that’s it. The fight with Aleem was definitely not my best performance. I’m a boxer-puncher with good foot movement. Aleem is nowhere near faster than me, but it appeared that he was faster than me in the fight because of the type of punches I was throwing. I was throwing nothing but bricks; hard punches. I wasn’t letting my hands go or throwing combinations, none of that. You can look at my fight against Steve Rolls, that wasn’t even my best performance. I got knocked down in the first round, got back up and fought. I lost a controversial decision, but nobody has seen my true talent yet. I don’t know what his problem is. What does it matter, this fight, that fight, that don’t mean nothing. All that matter is how I look April 28th.

PC: How do you plan on looking on April 28th?

DN: April 28th, man, the only goal is to shine. I’m coming to shine. I’m working hard; I’ve been training the last 2 weeks, but now we picking it up. I start sparring in a week or two and I plan to shine April 28th. I plan to embarrass Jesse in his hometown. I plan to take his pride away from him. He keeps talking about I’m a kid. I’m a grown man first of all. I’m far from a kid and I’m going to show him what this kid can do on April 28th.

PC: Does fighting him in Philly actually benefit you more in the sense of motivation?

DN: Oh yeah, a lot of motivation. Each time I’m on the road running, that’s all I think about is April 28th. He said it’s going to be a legendary night; it really is going to be a legendary night for me. It’s on ESPN and I’m going to shock the world. A lot of people probably doubt me in this fight, so I’m going to shock the world. Like you said, it’s more motivation for me. I’m in the gym each day thinking about that day and Jesse Hart. The great thing about being in the DMV, it’s a lot of different talent. I’m going to be sparring a lot of different people getting ready for him. He’s long, but his arm reach is only 2-inches longer than mine. He’s 77 ½ and I’m 75 ½. He’s not really that much longer than me. That’s not really even a problem. I’m not worried about his dimensions or anything.

PC: Did you ever think you guys would be in the same division, therefore you looked at him as a potential opponent, or you never thought you would be in the area to fight him?

DN: Honestly, when I first turned pro, anybody from 160-168, I kept on the radar because you never know. Yeah, he’s been on the radar. He’s been a potential opponent for a long time. I always kept it in the back of my head that I might have to fight him one day.

PC: I look forward to this fight, best of luck during training camp, and I will definitely get a camp update. Is there anything else you want to add before I let you go?

DN: I’m not the one to do all of that talking about another person and stuff like that, so I’m just going to leave it like that. I ain’t doing no talking. I’ll see him at the press conference on April 26th or something like that. I won’t have no worries or trash talking or nothing like that. There is no need for it, man. At the end of the day, this is a business. I’m just ready to go to work, you feel me.
