“Many people put different percentages on what it takes to be able to endure this sport. Many people say it’s 90% mental and 10% physical and I am one of those people that believes that. The mental plays in with the confidence. The mental is all of the confidence. If you don’t have confidence in this sport, you in the wrong business. You gonna get hurt. You bout to get hurt, especially when you dealing with a guy like me,” stated undefeated WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, who had a lot to say about his confidence and his firm belief that he's the man to unify the heavyweight division. Check out what else he had to say!
DEONTAY WILDER ON HIS CONFIDENCE:
"I keep telling people, I ain’t nothing to play with, man. And it’s so real. I don’t take this sport lightly at all. When I think about getting in that ring, I think about my life and all my beautiful children and the last time I see their face and I promise them every time, I’m coming back to those faces. When you don’t have the confidence, then you are not going to fight your best. You are always going to pick lower opposition or guys you feel you can beat and different things like that. But when you have the confidence, it’s nothing like it because you feel like you are invincible. You don’t care who wants to fight because you are up for the challenge. You don’t care how many titles they got or how many people are behind them, you will go to their house just to show them and shut them up. You will do that to show you are the best and that’s what Deontay has done throughout his whole career. I have never ducked no fighter. I have never dodged any fighter pertaining to people saying they were the best. I have never ducked a fight that people wanted to see. I have never done that. I always went around other fighters to fight the best. Why take a mandatory when I got the head man right here with me? Why take a mandatory when I got a title holder? Why take a contender when I got a title holder? I have a title holder right at this point and time, so it don’t make no sense. I want the best. I want the top, and with that being said, I ain’t never ducked no one that was considered the best, but they all ducked me.
But we know the story. I’m one of those black fighters that people going to always make excuses about; people never going to give me my full credit for what I do and I accept that. But guess what! I’m a product of my environment, but I’m a successful product of it. Many people didn’t think I would be where I am. Many people didn’t think I would reach the potential I have and many people didn’t think I would make the money that I have made to be able to support my family, but I beat the odds. And here I am now alive and well. So people can continue to hate and see fault in me, but then when it’s pertaining to another fighter, oh, it’s the best in the world when they fight. I don’t care about that. Even the Bible says, “So those who are last will be first.” I’m walking in my manifestation right now. If you ain’t no believer, I’m going to make you one and if you ain’t heard, now you have."
