"All these guys are talking about how they want to fight the best, but there are only a few guys that will fight anyone, anywhere, like me. I'll fight at 154, 160, or even at a catchweight if anybody wants to fight. The problem is that they [networks] are paying too much attention to undefeated fighters, but the thing is that the undefeated fighters are not the best fighters...The thing is that the TV keeps putting these undefeated fighters on, but when they get in the ring, they just bore it out and make the boxing world look stupid," stated jr. middleweight contender Deandre Latimore as he talked about his future plans, including a potential clash with undefeated jr. middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan. Check it out!
DH: So what's good man? Did you have a chance to catch K9 vs. Sechew Powell the other weekend?
DL: Yeah, I was there at ringside. I expected Sechew to do more than he did.
DH: So did I. I thought Sechew was going to win and when K9 came to the ring, he looked a little drained to me, like he had trouble making weight. Sechew just had nothing to offer him though. You're now K9's mandatory.
DL: I'm actually the highest contender for the belt right now. So either I fight an eliminator with Vanes Martirosyan for the mandatory spot or we make the fight right now, so I'm seeing what happens. I'm the highest rated contender.
DH: Is that the fight you want next, the title fight?
DL: Oh yeah. This time around, it's going to be a different story, but it's looking like Vanes might be up first.
DH: I know one guy you really wanted to fight too and that's Paul "The Punisher" Williams.
DL: Yeah, he's not fighting this weekend because he ducked me! I wanted to knock him out, but he's too scared to fight a puncher like me.
DH: Paul seems really picky with his opponents. HBO offered him a title fight with Sergei Dzinziruk, Pawel Wolak and yourself, but they settled for Nobuhiro Ishida, a guy who can't punch, before HBO ultimately chose Erislandy Lara for him.
DL: He got knocked out and he's being cautious because he's scared. That's why he's staying away from me. All these guys are talking about how they want to fight the best, but there are only a few guys that will fight anyone, anywhere, like me. I'll fight at 154, 160, or even at a catchweight if anybody wants to fight. The problem is that they [networks] are paying too much attention to undefeated fighters, but the thing is that the undefeated fighters are not the best fighters.
DH: I got to agree with you. I honestly didn't want to see Adrian Broner back in the ring after he struggled against Ponce De Leon, but he got right back on the network cause he has that 0.
DL: The thing is that the TV keeps putting these undefeated fighters on, but when they get in the ring, they just bore it out and make the boxing world look stupid. You know, all these cats man, boxing is messed up right now 100%.
DH: So let's talk about Victor Ortiz. He just hit the lottery with his fight with Floyd Mayweather and you two have some history if I'm not mistaken?
DL: Yeah man, that's my boy.
DH: How do you like his chances?
DL: I'm pulling for my boy to win 100% and I'm hoping he goes and gets it.
DH: Victor is a young gun, man. I give him a great shot, but I'm going to have to wait for the ringside odds before I make anything official (laughing).
DL: (Laughing) He's going to give him a good fight, man. That's for real.
DH: Alright man, I don't want to take up too much of your time. Anything you want to leave with the fans?
DL: Thanks for your support and keep your eyes peeled cause I got something big coming up.
