ORTIZ BEGS FOR REMATCH; SAYS HE WAS DISRESPECTED BY DISHONORABLE MAYWEATHER AND DESERVES IT

During an international media conference call held earlier today, former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, along with his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, and his manager, Rolando Arellano, demanded a rematch with pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather for what they called a "controversal ending" to their September 17 clash. Oritz was knocked out in the 4th round when he failed to defend himself after the referee resumed action following a point deduction for an intentional headbutt. According to Ortiz, De La Hoya, and Arellano, Mayweather's actions were unsportsmanlike and he's undeserving of being called the best pound-for-pound champion, or the WBC welterweight champion for that matter, unless he does the honorable thing by giving them a rematch.

I must say, this was probably one of the saddest attempts to force a rematch that I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Despite initially saying that the headbutt was unintentional, Ortiz now claims that he was retaliating for two elbows he received to his right eyebrow in the second round. According to Ortiz and Arellano, Mayweather was the one who first started fighting dirty by using his elbows, and when Ortiz realized he wasn't going to get any help from the referee, he decided to take matters into his own hands. Of course, if that's the case, one has to wonder why he was being so apologetic after being caught for the blatant headbutt if he was simply fighting fire with fire. I can't even begin to describe to you the lengths at which Ortiz, De La Hoya, and Arellano are going in hopes of enticing Mayweather into a rematch, so by all means, feel free to listen to the full conference call below.

Just to put the conference call in perspective, check out some comments posted on Twitter by journalists who were listening in on the call:

DAN RAFAEL, ESPN

This call with Ortiz, Oscar and Roladno Arellano is laughable. WAHHHHH!!!!!! WAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! CRYYYYY!!!!! CRYYYY! WAHHHHHHH!

This is like listening to a guy who got dumped by his girlfriend and begging her to get back together when she has moved on.

I'd rather watch the Holyfield-Sherman Williams PPV again than listen to more of this pathetic call with Victor and Oscar.

I'm not surprised that Richard Schaefer is not on this call. He has more class than to associate himself with this mess.

Not sure who is responsible, but whoever had the idea for this horrific call made one of the worst PR decisions in the history of the world.

This Ortiz/Oscar teleconference should be played on Comedy Central.

This is like listening to one of those "talk shows" on WWE.

CHRIS MANNIX, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

More begging for the rematch. This is weak.

Victor Ortiz, Oscar De La Hoya and Rolando Arrelano, three guys I respect, are embarrassing themselves right now.

This conference call was one of the worst ideas in the history of ideas

Call is over. Now De La Hoya, Ortiz and Arrelano can hop in Bill and Ted's phone booth and transport back to the land of Narnia.

KEVIN IOLE, YAHOO! SPORTS

Holding that conference call for @VICIOUSortiz should be enough to get @OscarDeLaHoya impeached as @GoldenBoyBoxing president.

I'll point out @OscarDeLaHoya is talking about integrity when @ViciousOrtiz fouled and @FloydMayweather threw a legal punch. Makes no sense
