"I've been in rehab. It's 80%. It will be 100% by January when I start boxing. I had a slight tear in my rotator cuff. I also had an AC break that was diagnosed by X-Ray in LA," stated future Hall of Famer Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins, who gave an update on the status of the shoulder injury he sustained in his bout with Chad Dawson this past October. Hopkins, who lost the bout via 2nd round TKO when it was determined that he was unable to continue after suffering the injury from an apparent trip and push by Dawson, is looking to have the loss changed to a No Contest when he appeals the ruling in front of the California State Athletic Commission. "I go out next week to the hearing for the request to have the TKO overturned to a No Contest," he explained.
Hopkins, who is on hand in Washington DC to help promote this Saturday's Golden Boy Promotions card headlined by Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson, made it clear that, in his opinion, Dawson should really be disqualified for his action, however, he'll settle for a No Contest. "Truthfully, I wanted the DQ because I believe the foul, and the act behind the foul, flagging the head down and this and that, no remorse was shown, but it looks like, and I'm hoping it's more of a worst case scenario, it's a No Contest, which I think it should've been based on the rules," he continued. "If you base it on the tape, based on what you see, I think it's a no contest they will do. I think by January, I will be back sparring, which I haven't done since the fight."
