By King Mo Lawal | March 14, 2012
KING MO:

Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion King Mo Lawal is back on his grind, staying in touch with fans and answering any and all questions related to himself, mixed martial arts, boxing, or just about anything. Check out what fans were asking and what King Mo had to say in this week's mailbag as he touches on his Badr Hari, Rampage Jackson, Floyd Maywether, Adrien Broner, Rashad Evans, and a number of other subjects. The grind never ends for King Mo, so send him an email at kingmo@fighthype.com and maybe next week, you too can see your questions and Lawal's responses.

Mo, I hope you return and start doing the Mo Grind's again. Fuck the haters. Anyways bro, how is the knee doing and when will you resume training? Thx for your time man.

King Mo: I'm back! LOL. I'm done with haters. You can't help nobody who ain't happy with they life, so I'm on to the positive. The knee is great, but the infection was a different story.

Your health seems to be struggling big time man and that's way beyond fighting. I'll be honest, I'm not your biggest fan, but I would never wish what you are going through on anyone. I hope you get better soon. Is there any update on your health status? Get well soonÂ… Dave Pro

King Mo: Dave, I appreciate you hittin' me up with that positivity. That's what people need. Luckily....I been getting plenty of it. I aint about fell in sorry for myself. I even downplay the situation to be honest. Thats just how I do things. I hope U doin good yourself.

Hey Mo, bring back the mailbags homie. Is it true you almost had your leg amputated and if so how were you able to avoid having that done? I hope you get better bruhÂ…for real. Holla back

King Mo: Let's put it like this, it was close, bro. They were gonna take the new cal out, then go from there. I didn't even know. I went into this thing like it was a fight and I was gonna win. LOL. Whatever my docs did, the bacteria seemed to counter. That was avoided by having great doctors.

Hey Mo I hope you still get emails from the Mo Grind. I understand for PR reasons you took a step back from them, but I wanted to get your thoughts on Adrien Broner? Dude seems like he has all of the tools, talent, defense, charisma etcÂ…you know all of the things people will hate him for and he will continue to win. Sounds like someone else we know right? Lol. As a life long fan of urs and supporter I know you didn't cheat against Larkin. One-you don't need PEDS and two you have been subjected to more strenuous testing and never came up dirty. Hold ya head. Can't wait to see you back in there my dudeÂ… FaceMob

King Mo: I respect the hell outta you for using the Scarface name. Adrien Broner is a mini-Mayweather, except more childish in a fun way. I will always watch him fight. I didn't shoot up no roids for Lorenz, bro. Everything will come out this month at the hearing. No date is set yet.

Hey Mo I know you probably cant talk abt ur hearing much, but I hope u kept that bottle of S Mass as evidence. Shit shold be snatched off da market. I saw a vid u did where u said u wont buy cheap againÂ…aint that da truth. Jus wanted to hit u up and wish u the best of luck. Holla-BPD

King Mo: LOL. I still got that bottle for evidence. I shoulda been smarter. I thought I knew all this stuff good enough, but I don't know chemistry. That's what got me; me being vein, overconfident, and ignorant. Whenever I see that bottle, I wanna do this to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dN3v0drnTdQ.

Sup KingÂ…man the heavyweight division in boxing is getting interesting. Huck may be able to make a little noise (Povetkin looked terrible without T. Atlas) and Chisora is the right amount of head case we need for him to make a little noise; oh and hopefully Wlad and Vitali are on their way out. And let's not forget about Badr Hari coming in. What u think broth?

King Mo: Chisora! I'm on the bandwagon 'cause he will fight. He got a gangsta mentality and fight like that too. Then we got Badr. I'm excited about him coming to boxing. I hope Tyrone Spong and Gokhan Saki follow suit, but I think with the right team, Badr will be up there quick...his right hand will make a lot of straw companies money. LOL.

Mr. Lawal a lot of people are under the impression that your recent health issues are due to steroid use which I think is ridiculous. Can you shed some light on the situation and clear the air? I hope you get this email. Would really like to hear back from you? Jimmy

King Mo: Well, people that don't wanna know the truth can assume stuff if they want. They can remain in the dark. I've had a staph infection more than once in my life. I got it in my face in China back in '06; got it in my elbow after a surgery back in '07. That was pain 'cause I had to clean the wound out and pack it with gauze every day. Well, once you have had staph in your system once, it's easier for it to come back again. Now multiply that with a naturally low white blood cell count, which is common in black athletes, and there is your culprit. After my Feijao fight, I had to get a bone marrow biopsy because the docs were worried and confused about how low my red and white blood cell count was. The infection caught me slipping at a time I was healing from surgery, and now we been at war ever since.

Can we officially say Rampage is done? I never thought Ryan Bader would have a win over him. So when I break down his UFC career I see, 2 guys that I never thought would beat him having a win over him; Griffin and Bader (who was stopped by TitoÂ…smh) and two guys that I never thought would see the final bell against him in Hamill and Jardin. It may be time to pursue something else. BTW, have you heard any behind the scenes talk of this "knee injury" he supposedly sustained in training? Talk to me Mo (:    -Doug-

King Mo: Real talk, I heard from an inside source, who is my boy, that he saw Quinton get hurt. If he can change things up and get hungry again, I wouldn't say he's done. I just think he gotta a lot of distractions in life and he been fighting for a long ass time. He just needs to do some soul searching. Good win for Bader, but if Quinton don't make a few changes, he in trouble. He just needs a break and time to see if this is what he wanna do still.

hey mo I just wanted to ask you how has all of these issues and injuries, positive test and life threatening situations affected your day to day life? it's crazy how all of this shit is happening all at once. How are u dealing with everything and do you feel it has changed u? hope to hear back bro Markkkkk

King Mo: I became a lil' paranoid, bro. Over what I ate, what I touched, I dropped down to 195 at one point. I was a lil' crazy, but I have a strong support staff that is world wide. They helped me become more positive. I think that's one thing I got from this whole thing.

I can't wait for Jones/Evans. It seems Evans is getting into Jones' head a lil bit. What u think man? Will the hype come to an end or what? Thanks for your time bro.

King Mo: I can't wait either. Suga knows Jones and vica versa! I think my brother will pull it off easier than expected. Trust me! People constantly underestimate my brother and it disgusts me.

Man I gotta get your take on Floyd's, Jeremy Lin comments. I really didn't think it was all that bad. I know I say stuff like that all of the time and I'm far from a racist. I say it about all races from Eminem getting more hype because he's a white rapper to Charlie Pride getting more hype because he's a black country music singer. I definitely think Lin's race helped him and I don't see where that's a bad thing. If he can give other Asian's hope what's wrong with that. Yao Ming got the same forum, but he was 7'7 and that's hard for kids to relate to because what's the chances of someone being that tall? I definitely think Lin is a feel good story and being Asian helped; nothing wrong wit that. What you think my man because I know you stay in tuned with all going on in the world?

King Mo: I agree with what Floyd said and I think the world is a lil' too sensitive. When u see a rare thing doin' stuff that's not seen by his group, it's pretty eye-opening. But at the same time, it has been done before. So you mean to tell me Danica Patrick don't get extra hype, or the one black country rapper, Cowboy Troy, or even Tiger Woods at one point? Jeremy Lin is legit in my eyes, but the fact he is asian helps him, and that's a great thing. Young asian athletes can now say, "I ain't gotta be 7'7" to make it in the NBA. I can be like Lin." That's beautiful. It builds hope.
