Soto jumps on him and lands a barrage of punches. Cortez tries to jump in to stop the fight, but then he lets it continue. He tries to jump in again, but again he lets it continue. Uppercut, left hook. Lorenzo drops to his knees with blood pouring out of his nose. Cortez calls it a foul though saying that Soto hit him while he was on the canvas. Wow. Unbelievable. The ring doctor says he can't continue. Cortez isn't sure what to do. Unbelievable. Lorenzo was ready to quit...he's got blood pouring out of his face from his nose and a cut and Cortez is actually talking about disqualifying Soto. Unbelievable. He's still not sure what to do. Cortez is talking to the doctor and Keith Kizer. A long discussion going on regarding what Cortez should do. If they DQ Soto, this will be one of the most disgusting acts in boxing I've ever witnessed. Lorenzo still sitting on the ground holding the back of his head. Lorenzo was clearly about to get knocked out...bobbing and weaving and eating a lot of leather before he dropped to his knees and Soto accidentally landed an extra shot. This is unbelievable. They're still having a group discussion about it. Lorenzo is all bloodied up. Cortez calls a halt to the fight. Buffer about to make the announcement. WOW. Soto is about to get DQ'd.
Micheal Buffer says, "Referee Joe Cortez has called a halt to this bout...the official ruling is Lorenzo was hit while down. That's a disqualifying blow...the winner by disqualification...Francisco Lorenzo."

HBO tires to get an interview with Joe Cortez, but they're not allowed to. Keith Kizer comes over to do an interview. "Mr. Lorenzo had three injuries. He had a messed up nose, a bad cut and a possible concussion...I asked the referee if the punch was intentional...he said without a doubt that it was," stated Kizer. Kizer sounded about as clueless as Cortez. Unbelievable.
