If you missed the chat session with UFC middleweight Drew McFedries, check out the entire chat transcript to see what he had to say. "I see this guy as a guy that thinks he's going to stand with me and take me down and grind on me. He doesn't have great standup, but he has decent wrestling, which is good enough sometimes, but not this time," he stated and you don't want to miss what else he had to say about his clash with Mike Massenzio and his thoughts on Anderson Silva, Patrick Cote, Michael Bisping, Chris Leben and much more.
thehype: FightHype would like to welcome Drew McFedries to tonight's chat session
DREW MCFEDRIES: What's up FightHype?
jaskiejm: Drew, after your impressive win over Marvin Eastman, who have you been training with and what have you been doing to prepare for Mike Massenzio.
DREW MCFEDRIES: Same camp! MFS! Other than that, I don't do anything different. I train everything and stick to what I do best.
DREW MCFEDRIES: My boxing!
dangibbons: How do you think your fight with Mike Massenzio will play out?
DREW MCFEDRIES: Personally, I see this guy as a guy that thinks he's going to stand with me and take me down and grind on me. He doesn't have great standup, but he has decent wrestling, which is good enough sometimes, but not this time.
Lincoln Park: Is it tough preparing for a guy you know little about?
DREW MCFEDRIES: Not really. I just want to perform my best and I'm more concerned with how I perform agaisnt basically a no-name.
DREW MCFEDRIES: This is the business though.
mosleyfan: Hey Drew, who are some current or past boxers you like to watch?
DREW MCFEDRIES: Really as a kid, a lot of guys my age watched Mike Tyson. I always wanted to emulate Mike Tyson because I like the way he fights. Roy Jones played a lot in my MMA career because I use his movements and combinations. Holyfield for his heart and Ali. Everybody watched him.
DREW MCFEDRIES: I got about 5 DVDs of Ali.
BigPoppaPump: Did you think your fight with Cote was a good stoppage?
DREW MCFEDRIES: When it went down, I wasn't really sure. When I watched it, Herb Dean put himself in a position where he couldn't tell the condition I was in. When Cote was throwing the punches, he was hitting my arms. He caught me off guard and I put myself in a shitty position. When you look at it from Dean's position, he made the right choice.
DREW MCFEDRIES: You can walk a mile in another man's shoes and it won't mean anything.
muaythaifan: Any chance we might get to see a rematch between you and Cote?
DREW MCFEDRIES: I never really look for rematches.
DREW MCFEDRIES: I feel fortunate to be in the UFC and whoever I fight, that's who I fight.
DREW MCFEDRIES: Every fighter changes and if I got a rematch against Cote, it's whatever. As long as I get a check.
DREW MCFEDRIES: I think I've earned respect very fast in the 185-pound division.
DREW MCFEDRIES: I think I've been used as a stepping stone to gage where fighters are.
jaskiejm: Having personally been in the Octagon with Patrick Cote, do you see him having a chance at UFC 90 against Anderson Silva?
DREW MCFEDRIES: He's a gamer. He's the real deal and I think anything can happen, but do I give him the fight? No. I would say ANDERSON 70-30. He's highly skilled!
dangibbons: Do you think Cote would be better off standing with Silva or taking it to the ground?
DREW MCFEDRIES: Good question.
DREW MCFEDRIES: I truthfully will say he should stand with Silva.
DREW MCFEDRIES: He moves real well, he hits hard and he's faster. Points-wise, he may want to take Silva down twice per round. He wants to be defensive.
mosleyfan: Hey Drew. Who do you like in the Leben-Bisping fight?
DREW MCFEDRIES: Bisping is going to win that fight hands down.
DREW MCFEDRIES: Leben is getting better, but every fighter they want to build gets Leben.
qbmrstud9: ok drew...enough about other opponents lets talk about you....my question is...if things dont work out at 185 do u see urself movin down to 170 or up to 205 in the future?
DREW MCFEDRIES: Ah man, I don't think I could. I walk around at 210. If I ever made 170, I would be a monster. That's a hard question. If I had to make a move, I would probably skinny up because the 205 pounders are too big for me.
DREW MCFEDRIES: Those 205 guys cut from 235.
mayhem13: So far in your career, which fight has been the most memorable to you?
DREW MCFEDRIES: I would say Alessio Sakara because it was my first UFC fight. I had just come from being sick for a long time. I never thought I would reach that level and before I knew it, that's where I was. I had come back from Crohn's disease.
BigPoppaPump: You lost to Cote, but then looked impressive against Eastman. Cote beat you, but then looked average against Almeida. Is it frustrating to know that cote is now in line to fight arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world for the middleweight title while you're set to face a newcomer to the UFC?
DREW MCFEDRIES: Yeah, it is very frustrating. I knew I wasn't ready mentally for the Cote fight. I had the staph infection, I lost my mother and it was my first real battle with taxes. It was bad luck all year. It's very frustrating because if I beat Cote, I would be where he is. I'm young and I'll move forward. I have a lot of things other guys don't have and hopefully, everything happens for a reason.
Surreal555: Which fighter would you most like to fight in order to get on the path for a title shot?
DREW MCFEDRIES: I don't think about my opponents. I don't worry about them.
DREW MCFEDRIES: The 185-pound division has been cleaned out by Anderson.
DREW MCFEDRIES: If you put together a good string, they'll give you a shot. The division is wide open.
Jedi_Knyghtmare: What u think about a standup war with Nate Quarry or Chris Leben in the future?
DREW MCFEDRIES: I don't think it would be a war between me and Leben or Quarry, although Nate comes in shape. I don't think he's doing well with the back injury. He's not light on his feet like he used to be, but he comes in shape. I can't call that fight. I would do like I ususally do and try to knock the fucker out. Me and Nate are good friends, but it would be business as usual.
matt0620: Drew since you stopped last three fights with your hands, do you just keep working that knowing it's your strength or you focusing on ground training/wrestling, etc. since stand up is already strong?
DREW MCFEDRIES: My routine never really changes. Sometimes I work some things more than others, but I go out with Drew McFedries offense. I'm a very offensive guy so that's what I'm going to do.
ShinyaAoki: Drew, when or how do you know that you have what it takes to become an MMA Fighter?
DREW MCFEDRIES: I guess I really didn't. I thought I would be a professional athlete. I wanted to play football. After college, I didn't know anything about MMA. I ran into the right people. I fought at some rinky dink show. Monte Cox was putting it on and Pat showed up and the rest is history. Here I am 10 years later.
jayz22: Drew, first and foremost congrats on your recent successes and thanks for giving us a chance to chat with you and ask questions. Next, who are the 3 fighters in the world that you would like to fight the most...and who is your favorite fighter (besides yourself ;))??
DREW MCFEDRIES: I will say one of my all-time favorite fighters is Wanderlei Silva. I love his aggressiveness. I still haven't got a chance to meet him. I really don't want to fight anyone. Whatever gets me to that level. I don't have any beef with anyone. I look at it as a brotherhood.
muaythaifan: Who do you think is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world?
DREW MCFEDRIES: Damn, that's tough.
DREW MCFEDRIES: I hold Matt Hughes very high. I've seen him tap guys that's hundres of pounds heavier than him. I seen him go with the best of them. I would have to say Matt Hughes. If he comes in shape, he can't be beat.
jaskiejm: You said earlier that you were more interested in playing football the rest of your life but landed in MMA, who has been your biggest inspiration keeping you in the sport and trainning hard?
DREW MCFEDRIES: Jens Pulver has been a big inspiration to me.
DREW MCFEDRIES: When I first came into the sport, he was the 155-pound champion.
DREW MCFEDRIES: He had been through al ot and me and him had been in the same bucket as far as that goes. He keeps me coming to the gym and motivates me.
mayhem13: Say you got to play Joe Silva for a day (and there were no orgs. restricting fighters), what is the one fight (as a fan) that you would love to see??
DREW MCFEDRIES: Ummmmm....
DREW MCFEDRIES: Interesting.
DREW MCFEDRIES: I have to think about that.
DREW MCFEDRIES: I would like to see GSP go up in weight and fight somebody in the 85 pound class. Maybe not Anderson, but like GSP-Franklin for a number 1 contender match.
DREW MCFEDRIES: Gsp is on right now.
thehype: FightHype would like to thank Drew McFedries for taking time out to chat with us tonight.
DREW MCFEDRIES: Thanks for having me FightHype.com!
