45-year-old former undisputed heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield has agreed to face current WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev in a bout tentatively scheduled for December 20th in Switzerland or Germany. Holyfield, who turns 46 later this month, last fought in October of 2007 when he lost a 12-round unanimous decision to then WBO heavyweight champion Sultan Ibragimov.
According to the official ratings of the WBA, as of August 2008, Holyfield wasn't even ranked in the top 15 of the organization's heavyweights, but somehow, he's still getting a shot at the title. Apparently, the heavyweight division is so bad that one no longer needs to be ranked in the top 10 to fight for a championship belt.
